A long drive, today, far from the Red Tide of the FL Gulf Coast and the flattened/flooded parks of SW Florida.
Finally got my fix of a favorite swamp, open for business. Not a great many birds (it's off-season) but some, egrets and hawks, many anhingas, and some ibises and (reportedly) eagles & painted buntings - along with a few very big gators, turtles, and many anhingas.
Here's an osprey.

Rundschwanzsperber / Cooper's Hawk

Der Rundschwanzsperber ist in Nordamerika heimisch und sein Verbreitungsgebiet reicht von Kanada über die USA bis nach Mexiko. Früher wurden diese Vögel stark verfolgt, weil sie angeblich Geflügel erbeuten sollten. Später wurden ihre Bestände durch den Einsatz von Pestiziden, die die Fortpflanzung beeinträchtigten, dezimiert. Mittlerweile erholen sich die Bestände allmählich. Allerdings schwindet ihr Lebensraum durch fortschreitende Habitatzerstörung.
Das Bild zeigt einen Jungvogel mit gelben Augen und dem typischen Federkleid. Im Alter von etwa 2 Jahren werden sie geschlechtsreif. Dann färben sich die Augen rot und auch die Federn wechseln Musterung und Farbe.
