A long drive, today, far from the Red Tide of the FL Gulf Coast and the flattened/flooded parks of SW Florida.
Finally got my fix of a favorite swamp, open for business. Not a great many birds (it's off-season) but some, egrets and hawks, many anhingas, and some ibises and (reportedly) eagles & painted buntings - along with a few very big gators, turtles, and many anhingas.
Here's an osprey.

It's rare now to see three members of the #osprey family together. I can't tell which is which now and whether there are still four members in the family. I also like this #capture because it catches the #sunset

What's going on here this morning? It looks like this crow (or is it a raven?) is on the #osprey #nest while one of the ospreys looks on from nearby. I guess that the interloper is looking for #grubs and #insects to feed on and is thereby serving to clean the nest of #parasites. I presume that's why its presence is being tolerated.

This may not look like the most exciting #picture in the world because it appears to show an empty #nest but the #osprey seen in the upper left corner just flew to that branch. I don't know if it was the #chick's actual maiden flight but now both have developed the ability to fly.

The #Osprey #chicks are now juveniles and no doubt will be able to fly soon.

Did my longest bike ride yesterday by quite a bit - 66,6km (yes, I went around the block one last time to get that number). Was a super awesome day, perfect sunshine and practically almost no wind <3
Some more photos at https://www.strava.com/activities/7373499264 for those interested some pretty summer scenery of Helsinki.
Stupid Strava crashed, so manual input, apparently it's not a good idea to upload a ton of photos while saving the activity -> need to do save first, then add photos in the future.
Also, having a good backpack makes so much difference. I recently invested in an Osprey Radial to replace my falling-apart cheapy Targus, both designed for laptops. With laptop and other random gear, my back used to start hurting a bit within 15km. With the Osprey, no such issues, it supports itself perfectly.

Wow, those two surviving #osprey #chicks are getting big. They've probably got a decent chance of reaching maturity, I reckon.

Mixed news from the #Osprey #Nest in #Scotland. Two #chicks are thriving and growing up fast but one died a few days ago. I could be very wrong but I when I tried to find out when the death had occured, I thought I saw that the parents were feeding the dead chick to the surviving two. If so, I had no idea they engaged in #cannibalism.

A second #chick has hatched.

The first of the three #Osprey #Eggs has hatched and you can see the #chick here along with both parents.

As prompted by @Noam Bergman, I've been keeping an eye on a #webcam trained on the #nest of a pair of #ospreys in #Scotland. Most of the time, one #bird is sitting on a solitary #egg while the other is out hunting, I suppose. Like most of life, things are a bit dull and all you see is a bird sitting patiently on the nest, incubating its egg.
A few minutes ago, the nesting #osprey started screeching and so I switched over to that tab to see what was going on. Its mate arrived with a fish for the other to feed on and the pair swapped roles. The nesting #bird flew away with the fish to feed on it somewhere else.

Here's a couple of screen captures of the change over.
