Scenes from a #hike in #Gatineau #Park with @Kathryn Barr today we did a snowshoe route from the new P15 location to Healey Cabin and back, about 10 km. This is a snowshoe route but the snow was too hard packed for snowshoeing so we just went in boots.

@Kathryn Barr and I did an 7.8 km #hike in #Gatineau #Park today from P7 to Lac Fortune and back. There a zip lining facility there on the way, which was closed for the season, but we used one of their picnic benches for lunch. It was just below freezing, so the mud was mostly frozen and some ice was seen.

Today's #hike was from the Pima Canyon Trailhead to the tunnel. Basically a path under some rocks that haven't fallen yet, it's a cool place to rest. It looks wet, but that's just the polish from innumerable hikers brushing past. I didn't expect to get that far but my hiking partner had a goal and I was feeling up to it. It's about a mile further in than we usually go but the weather was cool, about 80f so it was easier than usual.
I was out of my main water by the time we returned to the start. Memo to me: bring more next time. I had a reserve bottle in my pack so wasn't in any danger. There's also a thermos of ice water in the car. Never skimp on water #hiking in Arizona. Even when it's cool the dry air sucks the moisture from your body faster than you can imagine.
This hike was 7 miles, give or take. The geology got more interesting further in. I wish I knew more about it.

@Kathryn Barr and I did an 8.2 km #hike in #Gatineau #Park today from P20 to #Lusk cabin and Lusk Lake, where we had a little fire in the wood stove there at lunch time. There was some #snow around and wind, temperature about +3°C (37°F). No bugs seen. The ATV belonged to a park maintenance guy.

Scenes from a #hike in #Gatineau Park today with @Kathryn Barr. This was a 7.2 km hike on a day when it reached +18°C (64°F), so quite pleasant. As the photos show we saw quite a few varieties of #fungi and #moss on the trail along with some #larch #trees. We even saw an official bat detector (it had a sign on it, as illustrated) and a bat cave.

Having had two dry(ish) days in #BannauBrycheiniog, it is not surprising that that the third was wet and not by a little. I usually like using my paper maps and #DeadReckoning to #navigate my way around a new place but I forgot to bring my compass on this occasion and so I had to revert to #GPS (don't tell anyone else) in order to find #SugarLoaf near #Abergavenny. I couldn't see much else but at least our #hike was 12 km and so it was still worth it.

Here I am surrounded by #ferns trying to figure out where I should go in the #rain and #fog.

Scenes from a #hike today in the #Ottawa greenbelt with @Kathryn Barr. It was -6°C with a -13 windchill, so not that cold out. The blazing sunshine was lovely. Only about 3 cm of snow on the ground, so still waiting for #XCskiing to start up - perhaps this weekend, as we have 22 cm of snow forecast!

Interesting #hike today in #Gatineau Park, with @Kathryn Barr. We did 7.7 km round the loop on the Wolf Trail (snowshoe trail 62) from P13 to the Tawadina Lookout and back. That doesn't sound far, but it took 3.5 hrs, as parts are quite challenging. The lookout though has quite a view, from about 1000 ft above the valley floor, so it is worth the trip.

Today the warm temperatures have ended and things have cooled here in #Ottawa to more seasonable norms. @Kathryn Barr and I headed up to do a #hike in #Gatineau #Park from P12 on Meech Lake to Western Cabin on a new route we had not done before, for about 8 km total. The winds were blowing, hitting over 30 knots (about 60 km/h).
