How Britain stole $45 trillion from India

And lied about it.

There is a story that is commonly told in #Britain that the colonisation of #India – as horrible as it may have been – was not of any major #economic benefit to Britain itself. If anything, the administration of India was a cost to Britain. So the fact that the #empire was sustained for so long – the story goes – was a gesture of Britain’s benevolence.

New research by the renowned economist Utsa Patnaik – just published by Columbia University Press – deals a crushing blow to this narrative. Drawing on nearly two centuries of detailed data on tax and trade, Patnaik calculated that Britain drained a total of nearly $45 trillion from India during the period 1765 to 1938.

Does the world has a 100 years cycle for fascism and stupidity taking over the nations?

Most countries turning into full fascist states and our democratic values being destroyed, one by one in every corner of the planet.

The nuclear powered nation of India turning fascist should be an alarm for everyone in the world. But sadly we are driven by for profit corporations rather than political leaders and India is one of the key nations in their plans to dominate the world economics. No matter how extreme right it turns.

THE FIRST PHOTOGRAPHS OF OLD WORLD #LUCKNOW, #INDIA (1850’s) [2024-03-18] - JARID BOOSTERS

Lucky Inheritors; The First Photographs of Old World Lucknow, India (1850’s) by Felice Beato. Howdy ya’ll. Do you enjoy ancient tech? Lucknow was part of the historic region of Awadh, India, which was known as the granary of #ancient India. Whoever controlled Lucknow was said to have controlled the Doab lands, a fertile plain which controlled India’s agriculture. We’re told Lucknow successfully defended itself against multiple outside invasions, and was the center for most major Islamic dynasties in India. The architecture in Lucknow is said to reflect that. However, the historical region which Lucknow is part of was only first mentioned in the 16th century, with all earlier history being formulated from excavations and educated scholars. Take it all with a grain of salt. Lucknow was involved in the Rebellion of 1857, where the People of India rose up against the British. It appears the photographs today, taken by Felix Beato in 1858 under orders of the British, may be some of the only surviving proofs of the absolute destruction which occurred on the most sacred and ancient structures in India. These are considered to be the first photographs of Lucknow. Can we find any anomalies in this narrative? – Jarid Boosters

"India's government has stepped back from its plan to require government approval for AI services before they come online."

I posted about this when it was first announced (on March 12), so I feel obligated to post this follow-up.

"That plan, announced in early March, was touted as India grappled with what the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology described as the 'inherent fallibility or unreliability' of AI."

"But last Friday the ministry issued a widely reported update removing the requirement for government permission, but adding obligations to AI service providers. Among the new requirements for Indian AI operations are labelling deepfakes, preventing bias in models, and informing users of models' limitations. AI shops are also to avoid production and sharing of illegal content, and must inform users of consequences that could flow from using AI to create illegal material."

India: Authorities Revoke Visa Privileges of Diaspora Critics

Government Targets Overseas Indians Opposing Ruling Party Policies

https://www.hrw.org/news/2024/03/17/india-authorities-revoke-visa-privileges-diaspora-critics

(New York) – Indian authorities are revoking visa privileges to overseas critics of Indian origin who have spoken out against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government’s policies, Human Rights Watch said today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi often attends mass gatherings of diaspora party supporters in the United States, Europe, Australia, and elsewhere to celebrate Indian democracy, while his government has targeted people it claims are “tarnishing the image” of the country.
