Disclosure: I am a non-fan of "snap polls", from political to social to ego (Facebook, Musk et al)....

That said, I'm also curious and a social scientist (who loves actual, valid data including opinions, beliefs, etc.)

So my reaction to finding an email from Twitter yesterday, encouraging me to use their spiffy new app to "find my Twitter" contacts, activated a few reactions ('neural pathways'/associations) in me (&/or my algorithms!)

First off, I am rather horrified/disgusted at the schoolyard antics of 'the world's richest man', now "owner" of the info 'town square' and clearly having lots of fun in his $44B sandbox. So the latest brilliant idea of someone working there now, cot included, is to encourage people looking for Twitter contacts to hand over our address books (which may contain all sorts of notes, account #'s, you name it), to Twitter! The company whose owner's first act was to scrap "privacy" and "security" teams. Sure, take my data!

But beyond the scam and - as someone on Mastodon commented, the likelihood of data scraping/monetization/re-sale - there is the question of trust. But even more: Why would I be looking for people on Twitter, when I already know who I've followed/connected with 'there' and am more focused now on finding refugees from Twitter who may end up on Mastodon, or 'here' or writers' pods.

So that's the "context and perspective".

Here's the one and only "poll" I've put out there, with my convenience sample of a dozen, just for fun.
Interesting how 100% agree that #MuskVirus is not to be trusted, BUT 9% chose the option,
"I'm wrong; Musk is altruistic and above-board".

So there you have it, the 109% have spoken! "I like polls". (yes/no 109%)

i’ve been boycotting amazon since 2004, and it blows my mind why other people dont see it. destroys the competition through ruthless means, not disimilar to the other ruthless megalomaniac monopolist, bill gates’ rise to power (not just destroying competing companies, but entire industries and markets, to disempowe us all into dependence as cashcow slaves). denies recourse and remedy to its [effectively] captive customers. treats workers horrendously. maintains the illlusion of space being difficult and reserved for the most #worthyvampire, getting to just 1% the width of the earth, away from earth.

also, the word “hoax” downplays it. as if it’s merely for the merriment of tricking. no. it’s a scam. a racket. these words at least depict there’s motivation and gains and effects beyond merely tricking for the joy of tricking. a hoax is “ho ho, fooled you” and done. a scam or a racket is extracting from you. which is better, but, there’s still a lot more to the scam than just a sell-op racket. #weareinalotoftrouble as depicted in the image and its intro line (and outro ~ minus the bezos & musk mention) pointing out:
