Some potentially good news for the USPS. And the rest of us.

Trump's out of office, but DeJoy's still running the Postal Service to the ground. That changes now

FTA: ... Almost three years after Trump appointed Louis DeJoy as U.S. Postmaster General, the wealthy Republican donor's plans to privatize the Postal Service are in full force.

That's because the U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors—the only entity that can actually fire DeJoy—has not replaced him. But two of the current members' terms have expired, and President Joe Biden can nominate replacements who would flip the board of governors' current pro-DeJoy majority. [emphasis mine]

^^ So that's the (potentially) good news. (The article links to a petition you can sign [for all the good it'll do] to encourage Biden to appoint anti-DeJoy USPS governors.)

And here's the Why the fuck was this allowed to happen in the first place?? news:

DeJoy is the first postmaster general in nearly two decades who has not been a career postal employee. He owned a logistics business that was a longtime contractor with the Postal Service, and has financial stakes with many of Postal Service’s competitors.

That alone creates a major conflict of interest, and we have seen this played out in the past three years of his tenure. [emphasis mine]

Read the article in its entirety if you're not sure why DeJoy's departure removal would be a good thing for every sane American.

Let's help repair the damage done to USPS by Trump appointed Postmaster General, Louis DeJoy

"Trump's disastrous Postmaster General, Louis DeJoy, has hacked away at the Postal Service, trying to gut it from the inside out. But under the Biden administration, we can repair it – if Congress acts.

Right now there's a bill in Congress called the Postal Service Reform Act. The bill would let the Postal Service restructure its finances to be more sustainable and create an online dashboard for track packages and ensure more transparency. It's essential to undoing the damage caused by DeJoy.

The Postal Service Reform Act has bipartisan support. That's right, there are Republicans and Democrats who agree that this bill is vital to keeping the USPS running.

Instead of having to set aside billions of dollars every year to pre-fund retiree health costs, the Postal Service would be able to pay these costs on a yearly basis, as do other government agencies and corporations.

If passed, it would be the first major postal reform legislation in 15 years. Passing the Postal Service Reform Act would strengthen a public service whose mission is to provide universal, affordable service.

But even with widespread support, Congress still needs to make the Postal Service Reform Act a priority. With midterms coming up this year and a gridlock of stalled bills, Congress needs to act now and pass the Postal Service Reform Act.

Thanks for taking action,

Tihi and the team at Demand Progress"
