115 mm of rain fell in the highlands of Ki Son, bordering #Laos. The river gushed down the mountain, causing the 4-month-old girl and her mother to be swept away. The mother survived, but the child did not.

Not a day goes by without reading and watching these horrifying news from every corner of our planet.

But the people are living their lives like nothing is happening and the leaders are focused on finding new ways to kill their opponents,

Authorities say more than 900 killed and 220,000 homes destroyed in worst monsoon rains disaster for a decade

Officials say this year’s floods are comparable to 2010 – the worst on record – when more than 2,000 people died and nearly a fifth of the country was underwater.

“I have never seen such huge flooding because of rains in my life,” an octogenarian farmer, Rahim Bakhsh Brohi, told Agence France-Presse near Sukkur, in the southern Sindh province.

Like thousands of others in rural Pakistan, Brohi was seeking shelter next to a national highway, as the elevated roads are among the few dry places to be found.

The head of UN, noted that for the first quarter alone, the combined profits of the world's largest oil and gas companies were 'close to $100,000,000,000.00 (billion)" and urged all governments to tax these profits.

"It is immoral for oil and gas companies to be making record profits from this energy crisis on the backs of the poorest people and communities, at a massive cost to the climate," Guterres told media, as quoted by Reuters.

"I urge all governments to tax these excessive profits, and use the funds to support the most vulnerable people through these difficult times," he also said, adding "And I urge people everywhere to send a clear message to the fossil fuel industry and their financiers: that this grotesque greed is punishing the poorest and most vulnerable people, while destroying our only common home."

The UN's top official is a vocal critic of the oil and gas industry. Earlier this year, he said investing in new oil and gas production was "delusional," and it would only have negative consequences.

"The biggest misconception about climate change is that we have time. We don't have time, and when we don't have time, we need all the help we can get. ”

Global Citizen Prize: Citizen Award Samoa Winner Brianna Fruean and COP26 President Alok Sharma united Monday over Instagram to speak live to thousands of Global Citizens, discussing in depth the Pacific's climate challenges, the importance of youth activists, and the urgent need for global action.

Fruean, a lifelong activist, started the conversation by discussing her attendance and address at the United Nations Climate Conference (COP26) last November.

"It was quite an experience being in Glasgow; it was one of mixed emotions for a lot of activists. It was a challenging space to be in, but we showed up anyway because the work is important," she told Sharma, a current British politician, who was joining live from Canberra.

"You made an amazing speech, one that talked from the heart," Sharma told Fruean in response.
