https://climatejustice.social/@ariadne/111425741952603251 ariadne@climatejustice.social - Hypocrisy, and thumbing their noses at the world and planet - " #Cop28 host #UAE breaking its own ban on routine #gas flaring, data shows" - Guardian Exclusive -  "Fields run by #climate summit host have burned gas near daily despite 20-year-old pledge, satellite monitoring reveals - State-run oil and gas fields in the United Arab Emirates have been flaring gas virtually daily despite having committed 20 years ago to a policy of zero routine flaring, the Guardian can reveal ... One field, Adnoc #LNG, flared gas on more than 99% of the days monitored by satellite from 2018 to 2022, according to data produced for the Guardian by the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (Crea). One expert said this was not routine flaring “by any normal definition”.

The analysis assessed flaring in 32 oil and gas fields in the UAE, 20 of which are run by Adnoc. It shows four fields flared on at least 97% of the days for which data was available, which was most days as measurements were interrupted by cloud cover on only one day in five."

The bicibús: how Barcelona got kids cycling safely to school – and loving it!

he bus leaves Monday to Friday at 8.30am sharp outside the Sant Antoni market in #Barcelona’s #Eixample district, but this is no ordinary vehicle; it has hundreds of wheels, dozens of drivers – and no passengers. This is the Barcelona #bicibús, the fun, safe mode of transport that makes going to school feel like a party.

On a cool September morning, a group of about 60 parents and children aged three to 11, on bikes and scooters, gather in the Plaça Conxita Pérez for the school run.

Due to the severe drought affecting the #Amazon, more than 130 pink #dolphins and #tucuxis (another type of freshwater dolphin) have been found dead in Lake Tefé, near the municipality of Tefé, just over 500 kilometers from #Manaus, the capital of the state of #Amazonas.

💥 In a statement posted on social media, the institute stated that the deaths of the pink dolphins and tucuxis began on Saturday, the 23rd, but the cause has not been confirmed yet. Technicians from the institute and government agencies are analyzing water quality and the deceased animals.

🚨 With the drought affecting the Amazon, several municipalities in the Amazonas state have declared a state of emergency in recent days. The state government has also expressed concerns about the possibility that the drought may impact the distribution of water and food to around 500,000 people.

THE AMAZON IS BURNING: With nearly 7,000 wildfires reported by September 29, the state of Amazonas had its worst month of the year for wildfires

💥 It's the second-worst September on record since the historical series began in 1998, with only 2022 having a higher number of wildfires, with 8,600.

📊 These data come from the Fire Program of the National Institute for Space Research (INPE). In August, there were 5,500 wildfires in Amazonas, compared to an average of 3,532 for the month.

📉 INPE data also shows that there has been at least a reduction in deforestation in the region. By September 22, an area of 346 square kilometers had been devastated compared to almost 1,100 square kilometers recorded in September 2022.

🔥 Wildfires are even more common during this time of the year when rainfall decreases. However, this year, the region is experiencing severe drought conditions.

El Niño: The strong heatwave that hit the country in the second half of September is expected to return in October. The forecast from the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) predicts that temperatures will be above average for the month in most of Brazil.

🗓 October is typically known for being hot with records of extreme temperatures. However, this year, the presence of El Niño could lead to another heatwave.

🌡 Temperatures are expected to be 2°C to 3°C above the average of previous years in most parts of the country, including states in the North, Northeast, Southeast, and Midwest regions. In the South and northern Amazonas region, temperatures may be up to 1°C above the average.

⚠️ Areas in Mato Grosso, Pará, Tocantins, Maranhão, Piauí, and western Bahia are expected to be the most affected, with average temperatures exceeding 29°C.

While the northern parts of Iran trying to dig out of the muds and recover from the worst floods in 100 years, the southern province of Baluchestan is still hammered with a deadly dust storm that has put some 2000 people in hospital.

Man more are suffering from the never ending dust storm and some schools were forced to cancel their start of the school year.

The climate catastrophe is showing it's horrifying reality in both parts of Iran and showing us what is the future we will see in more places all over the world.

In the mean time, the public and the politicians are all busy with Russia, China and imigration.

United Nations : every year 6.7 million people die because of air pollution globally.

Imagine if we didn't fall for Reagan's coup against green movement and push for cheap oil, followed by stupidity of the green movement to go after nuclear power instead of big oil, we wouldn't be in this situation.

But still, as well know the danger of global warming, pollution's and all the problems caused by them, we keep ignoring the obvious and focus on stupid politics, profit for the wealthy and ridiculous non-issues like plastic straws or electric cars.

The magic of halfmoon farming is spreading beyond sub saharan Africa

The simple idea to create a halfmoon to capture the rain water and provide more water to the ground that it would usually do when most vegetation has been removed and risk for erosion and floods increases, this idea has started helping the hills and dry land to turn into pockets of greets with native plants and deeply rooted bushes helping to preserve the top soil, provide more ground water and prevent floods.
