Ongoing WIndows 11 22H2 Installs

following up from my previous post - https://diasp.org/posts/21829172

I was able to upgrade the old desktop finally... I ended up using the Rufus created USB install and it worked fine.
I also rolled back another of my laptops that was having the problem where the Windows Update app was trying to update Windows to the same version I had just installed and retrying retrying retrying and failing every time.

I reinstalled the new update with the Rufus USB and it seems to be fine now...time will tell...

I'll keep an eye on the old desktop and the laptop I reinstalled and see what happens... If no issues then I'll try the install on a copule more machines.

I must say I've very impressed with the way Rufus allows you to create these install USB/Disks .... you can choose the version/build of the software and even disable/skip the hardware check/requirements as well as bypass the Now Required required Windows Login and use a local login.

It was a bit confusing at first about downloading the ISO and then where it was gong to be installed but all makes sense now.

Welp....been fighting a bit with the new Windows 11 22H2 release....

Can't seem to get it to install on my old desktop machine...regardless of registry hacks, etc...and ran into a problem with an old lenovo laptop...apparently it had not finished/been fully updated before I forced the new update so it kept trying to download and install old updates.... have restored it to original (that's where it was kinda anyway...shouldn't have messed with it) and we'll see...may just leave it there.

I have not updated this main machine yet, but the update worked fine on three other laptops as well as my old used Surface 3 which should have failed before my I7 Desktop!

Windows 11's second big update has been accidentally confirmed for 2023 | TechRadar

Microsoft is already preparing the second major update to Windows 11 for the end of 2023, which is being called 'Sun Valley 3', or 'Copper' internally, with a bigger focus on touch improvements for tablet devices.
According to Windows Latest (opens in new tab), 23H2 looks to build on Sun Valley 2 with improvements to Windows 11's existing apps, while potentially adding a 'tablet mode' similar to the one found in Windows 10.

Microsoft is making installing Windows 11 more difficult for new users | TechRadar

In the latest Windows 11 build, Microsoft has begun forcing Windows 11 Pro users to set up a Microsoft account and have an active internet connection when installing the OS, adding yet another barrier to installation.

So if you don't have an internet connection at home, you either have to install it while using a dodgy public WiFi connection or stay with Windows 10 and wonder when the security updates will end. And requiring an account and your personal information before allowing the the installation to go ahead is a no-no. There's a fix that could work for some people, but how long before MS plug that hole.

It looks like MS care less and less about their users.

Enable Windows 11’s God Mode to access all settings in one screen

Bild/Foto
Unlike Windows 10, Windows 11 comes with a new Settings app. It uses a sidebar and breadcrumbs to help users easily navigate between different pages, and it also features new controls for customisation, managing network, power usage, disk management, and more.

The settings app has been significantly improved, but several Control Panel features are still missing.

Thankfully, Windows 11 still comes with the Control Panel and File Explorer-based advanced configuration page called “God Mode” that allows you to easily access all advanced tools, features, and tasks.
