“I’ve been accused of being sexist, and I think it’s pretty damn silly,” Frazetta says. “Ridiculous. I paint beautiful women: sometimes they are vulnerable and sometimes they are the deadliest things on two legs. I love women. I don’t think that I ever suggest they are weak or that they’re being taken advantage of. And when did painting the human body become sexist?” - Frank Frazetta (Legacy: Frank Frazetta, Edited by Cathy and Arnie Fenner)

Frank Frazetta’s “Dejah Thoris” (1991).

Dejah Thoris, the buxom princess of Helium and eventual wife of John Carter in Edgar Rice Burroughs' beloved Barsoom stories, is presented here in a stunning and effortless drawing by the hand of the master. Rendered beautifully in graphite, this piece is signed and dated 1991. Dejah Thoris measures a substantial 8" tall on the 9" x 12" 100 lb Bristol board. This original artwork will be sold at Heritage Auctions at the end of November. It has been in a private collection for decades.
