People are angry at Gen Z taking photos of airport trays. Here’s what’s really going on

No sooner have airports introduced new scanning machines so you don’t need to unpack your carry-on bags, than a trend emerges where you photograph all your loose items in your airport security tray.

The “airport tray aesthetic” has taken off on TikTok, Instagram and Pinterest as people share artfully arranged shots of their sunglasses, shoes, toiletries and reading material inside the regulation polypropylene dishes.

Don’t expect crumpled plastic bags stuffed with toothpaste and Pepto-Bismol. This is aspirational travel, where your 35mm film camera nestles between your vintage loafers and your first-edition copy of “On the Road.”

Delta CEO lashes out at CrowdStrike: This cost us $500 million and they offered us nothing

The cost of crappy software:

“If you’re going to have priority access to the Delta ecosystem in terms of technology, you’ve got to test this stuff,” Bastian said. “You can’t come into a mission critical 24/7 operation and tell us we have a bug. It doesn’t work.”

The computer problems at Delta knocked its crucial crew tracking system off line for the better part of a week, making it impossible for the company to find pilots and flight attendants it needed to fly its aircraft. While other airlines were quick to resume normal operations after the CrowdStrike outage, Delta was forced to cancel about 30% of its schedule over five days, leaving an estimated half-million passengers stranded. It took many days after that to re-book affected passengers on other flights and return their checked bags.

Airlines Sue Transportation Department Over ‘Junk Fee’ Ban

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg fired back on social media, “We just issued a rule requiring airlines to inform you, before you buy a ticket, of fees they will charge you. Now the airline lobby is suing us, saying that if you have the right to that information it will ‘confuse’ you. For once, I am speechless.”

F.A.A. #Audit of #Boeing’s #737Max Production Found Dozens of Issues

The company failed 33 of 89 audits during an examination conducted by the Federal Aviation Administration after a panel blew off an Alaska Airlines jet in January.

The F.A.A. also conducted 13 product audits for the part of the inquiry that focused on #SpiritAeroSystems, which makes the fuselage, or body, of the 737 Max. Six of those audits resulted in passing grades, and seven resulted in failing ones, the presentation said.

Diversity Naysayers Make Labor Crisis Worse

A good article by Russ Niles on #AVweb. The story deals with #aviation, but is widely applicable and well argued.

One of the most interesting, frustrating, entertaining and occasionally frightening tasks of the modern-day editor is monitoring the comments on the stories we run. Most outlets have disabled comments because it’s just too much damn work to filter out the mean, hateful and irrelevant missives that inevitably appear no matter what the topic. It must be all Trump’s fault. Or wait, maybe it’s Biden’s.

#Pilots Warns of #Airline Industry #Disaster Due to #COVID-19 #Vaccines

Captain Shane Murdock, a pilot for more than 40 years, has found official data that back up his claim of impending #global #catastrophe:

• There was a 272% rise in mayday calls in 2022, with a 386% surge in early 2023 (see chart).

• There was also an unprecedented 126% increase in flight restrictions due to medical limitations.

Murdock thinks some pilots are ticking time bombs and claims many are not declaring ill-health. He said:

"They are not reporting brain fog, heart flutters, and dizzy spells because they don’t want to lose their jobs."

Cpt Murdock thinks lack of action can have only one result. Many planes make #emergency landings because of pilot incapacitations. He warned:

"Disasters will occur, and both aircrew and the traveling public will die unnecessarily."

Ph.D. Meteorologist Documents Impact Of Global Warming On Turbulence

Compared with La Niña years that have the opposite effect, El Niño increases the incidence of wind shear—conflicting airflows that create severe turbulence not associated with visible storms caused by convective activity. Williams found “when there’s a strong El Niño event, there is 50 percent more moderate-or-greater CAT over large parts of the U.S. and the North Atlantic. And when there’s a strong La Niña event, there’s about 50 percent less moderate-or-greater CAT than normal.” Williams did note that the climate-based effects are not as strong in Europe.

But Williams’s research doesn’t stop with the predictable effects of warmer El Niño years or cooler La Niña interludes. In research conducted in 2019, he concluded that global warming across the board has demonstrably contributed to increased air turbulence, worldwide.
