Dear Sir: — We of the United States, in justice to Canadians and Mexicans, have no right to use the title "Americans" when referring to matters pertaining exclusively to ourselves. Every day is keenly felt the want of a correct name for our great, grand, glorious, independent country. #usonia #jamesdufflaw #usa #vsa #estadosunidos #étatsunis #canada #mexico #americalatina #brasil #argentina #america #american #gringo #yanqui #yankee ">

I believe I am familiar with all the suggestions that have been made in this direction from time to time, and have been inclined to give my vote to the writer that first suggested "Usona" which is formed from the initials of "United States of North America". The assonance of "Usonans", however, has always been distasteful, and nothing better could be made from the first appelation strictly following the constructive genius of our language.

A much more euphonious word is "Usonia", and as it represents in a similar way the "United States of Northern Independent America" (a most important qualifying and accurately descriptive adjective being added) I am inclined to think it makes a perfect word and a dignified name to designate our land, our people and our nation — "Usonia", "Usonian" and "Usonians" sounding equally well. It has also to us Scots the added merit of making a good rhyme to Caledonia, and thus knitting more closely together both Usonians and Caledonians.

May I ask what might be done to exploit such a suggestion, and how could such words be adopted and used popularly, literarily, officially, Usonially and universally?

Respectfully yours,

James D. Law

In #1933, a 90-ton stone with the #Ten-Commandments #engraved on it was found in #New-Mexico. There are only two problems - the inscriptions are in #ancient #Hebrew, and research has established the age of the inscriptions at 500-2000 years ago.

To suggest that a carrier of Hebrew came to ancient #Mexico before #Columbus is unrealistic, from the standpoint of official #history. The assumption that the #stone was brought already engraved to the American soil does not stand up to criticism: specialists have already confirmed that the #mineral is purely of #local #origin.

Mexico to challenge Texas' new 'inhumane' migration law, president says

MEXICO CITY, Dec 19 (Reuters) - Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Tuesday said his government was preparing to challenge a new Texas law allowing state law enforcement to arrest suspected migrants, which he called "inhumane."

On Monday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed the law giving local officers powers long delegated to the U.S. government.

Migrants who enter the United States illegally can already be charged with illegal entry or re-entry under federal laws, but the governor of the border state has criticized what he calls U.S. President Joe Biden's failure to enforce them.

Abbott has launched a crackdown on illegal immigration in recent years under the name Operation Lone Star, rolling out the National Guard and concertina wire along the border and installing a floating barrier in a stretch of the Rio Grande.

Mexico's president, a leftist, often criticizes Republican Abbott as well as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, also a Republican, in his morning press conferences. He has urged Mexican-Americans to not vote for either.

"The foreign ministry is already working on the process to challenge this law," Lopez Obrador said.

Abbott "wants to win popularity with these measures, but he's not going to win anything, but he'll lose favor, because in Texas there are so many Mexicans and migrants," the president added.

Mexico's foreign ministry and Abbott's office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
