Bach and the Boogie

Dr. K and some skinny little kid (2023)

This is J. S. Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor (BWV 565) played on a church organ by Dr. K (Brendan Kavanagh) and danced -- yes, danced -- by a skinny kid dressed in black. She dances to the fugue. I was just looking through my collection of videos downloaded from YouTube and found this. I have a lot of music videos.

While doing research on the culture and dance of Egypt, she discovered the dances of India. With the help of some Indian friends, Miss St. Denis danced the radha, a freestyle Indian dance. She was the first in the Western world to introduce to a legitimate audience Oriental and Eastern dancing. The dances were accompanied by European music performed on Western musical instruments.

St. Denis' new style of dancing was a hit, particularly in Europe. She continued to incorporate non-Western techniques into her dance, presenting Egyptian dances and a Japanese ballet based on Noh theater. In 1915, she and her then-dancing partner Ted Shawn, founded the Denishawn School of Dancing."...
