The triumph of Gisèle Pelicot - UnHerd

#politics #feminism #society #exploitation

There is a distinctive form of violence inherent in treating people, animals, and the world as mere objects, in order to use them to our own ends. The philosopher Martin Heidegger characterised this as a kind of epistemological violence which he called Gestell, usually translated as “enframing”. Far more than a set of tools or techniques, for Heidegger, enframing represented the essence of technology: a mindset in which the world is not encountered in its full being, but merely a set of resources standing ready to be used. To Heidegger it was an aggressive act to re-order the world conceptually in this way. He called it a “challenging-forth”, that obliterates that thing’s ability to be fully itself.

Social media is full of posts by "feminists" crying over the election results in US and the protest by an Iranian woma.

But none, absolutely none of them seems to care about Israel openly and shamelessly murdering Palestinian women, some inside the hospitals.

The disgusting show of hypocrisy is truly sickening.

The Tyranny of Stuctureless - Jo Freeman

#politics #democracy #feminism

A "laissez faire" group is about as realistic as a "laissez faire" society; the idea becomes a smokescreen for the strong or the lucky to establish unquestioned hegemony over others. This hegemony can be so easily established because the idea of "structurelessness" does not prevent the formation of informal structures, only formal ones. Similarly "laissez faire" philosophy did not prevent the economically powerful from establishing control over wages, prices, and distribution of goods; it only prevented the government from doing so. Thus structurelessness becomes a way of masking power, and within the women's movement is usually most strongly advocated by those who are the most powerful (whether they are conscious of their power or not). As long as the structure of the group is informal, the rules of how decisions are made are known only to a few and awareness of power is limited to those who know the rules. Those who do not know the rules and are not chosen for initiation must remain in confusion, or suffer from paranoid delusions that something is happening of which they are not quite aware.

This is not just a video:

This video, dance, and song are a powerful protest against the patriarchy that Kurdish women have long been fighting.

Here are some of the most striking elements:

First, we see the Kurdish women breaking free from the burka, boldly stepping forward in their traditional Kurdish attire, which has been suppressed for centuries by Islamic dress codes since the spread of Islam invaded everywhere.

Next, they dance on a graveyard, symbolizing the lives Kurds have sacrificed in the fight against Islamist oppression. Kurds have a saying: "Kurdistan is the graveyard of fascists," emphasizing that tyrants have invaded their homes, attempting to erase their culture and identity, yet never succeeding in stopping their struggle for freedom.

In their vibrant clothing, they don't just dance - they play instruments, shout their freedom with conviction, and perform their fight as daughters, women, mothers, and sisters. Their dance reflects how, after every battle and victory, they wash the darkness from their faces, braid each other's hair, grasp each other's hands with determination, and continue their Kurdish dance - a powerful symbol of their resilience and unity.

“Sex is changeable” - Andrew Doyle

#politics #feminism #wokistan

All sexuality is discriminatory. It could hardly be otherwise. To suggest that women who are attracted exclusively to other women should include men in their dating pool is about as homophobic as it gets. That this is now codified into law should surely be a cause for concern for anyone who believes in the rights of minorities. And when it comes to women more generally, it is a clear-cut matter of safeguarding. Women’s spaces exist because 99% of sex crimes are committed by men and 91% of victims of sex crimes are female. This really shouldn’t be difficult to understand.
