Gestern Abend, 25.02.2024
So ein schöner Tag war gestern, als ich mit meiner guten Freundin unterwegs war. Eine fast drei Stunden lange Runde haben wir gemacht, am Rande von der Stadt Rheine, an der Ems. Der Flusspegel ist immer noch ganz hoch, aber kein Überflutung Gefahr mehr. Unterwegs haben wir fest gestellt, dass das Wasser stand 1,5 Meter höher im letzten Monaten, beim Überschwemmungen. Erschreckend für uns beide war die Feststellung.
Auf dem Rückweg habe ich kurz am Wegesrand angehalten... Diese Aussicht war spannend: ich wusste, dass über meinem Ort geht gerade wieder die Welt unter, beim ganz starken Regen und ich stand dort, noch alles trocken und hinter mir noch fast wolkenfreier blauer Himmel!

Yesterday the secretary of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council, Oleksiy Danilov, tweeted in English and Russian:

At this stage of active hostilities, #Ukraine’s #Defense #Forces are fulfilling the number one task – the maximum destruction of manpower, equipment, fuel depots, military vehicles, command posts, artillery and air defense forces of the russian army. The last few days have been particularly fruitful. Now the war of destruction is equal to the war of kilometers. More destroyed means more liberated. The more effective the former, the more the latter. We are acting calmly, wisely, step by step.

Hard to say how this will play out, of course, but never forget that Ukraine is not fighting like a normal nation at war; it's a sacrificial punching bag used as a launch pad to strike Russia.

An #advertisment for the use of #US-American #weapons in Ukraine

#DU rounds are frequently used by many armed forces, including the U.S. and the U.K. The rounds are denser than lead, and they self-sharpen when they make impact with a target. They are kinetic rounds, which do not explode, but penetrate a tank's armor when fired at high speeds and can be used to engage enemies at a greater distance. They wouldn't be fired from Ukraine's Soviet-era tanks, experts say, and would likely only be compatible with Western-made military vehicles.

DU munitions are "the most potent tank ammunition that's around," according to former British Army Colonel Hamish de Bretton-Gordon, who previously commanded U.K. and #NATO #chemical, #biological, #radiological and #nuclear defense (CBRN) #forces.

#Ukraine must win, otherwise all the investment will be blown in the wind. America is too far away from the conflict zone, and some profiteers, feeling safe, are considering already to use nuclear weapons.
