‘He repeatedly applied the liquid onto his cheek for seven minutes. Rakus then smeared the chewed leaves onto his wound until it was fully covered. He continued to feed on the plant for over 30 minutes.
The paste and leaves then appear to have done their magic - the researchers saw no sign of infection and the wound closed within five days.
After a month, Rakus was fully healed. It is the first time a creature in the wild has been recorded treating an injury with a medicinal plant. Well down Rakus!

Just because we practice traditional Chinese medicine, doesn't mean we condone animal cruelty, so we are happy that African Heads of State and Government recommend a continent-wide ban on the slaughter of donkeys for their skin.
There are many alternatives to animal products, including different herbal medicines, foods, qi gong, moxa and even acupuncture. Chinese medicine has a very long and very noble history, and has always adapted to the needs and customs of the times. It can do without products that are not ethical to use in the 21st century.

New free Chinese herbal database launched called SuperTCM

SuperTCM is an online resource that connects data from multiple scientific sources and languages. Drug information from published TCM databases and the official Chinese Pharmacopoeia as well as specialized meta-websites such as Kew’s Medicinal Plant Names Service was integrated on a higher level. The aim of this new herbals database is to facilitate the studies of the actions of TCM drugs and expand their applications.

The SuperTCM database can be searched for:

- Ingredient
- Target
- Disease
