Inanna

I finally finished a new digital painting, and has gone back to some of my favourite motives from pre-Abrahamic mythology. Inanna, later in the Babylonian epoch known as Ishtar, was an ancient Mesopotamian goddess associated with love, beauty, sex, war, justice, and political power. Her symbol was the eight-pointed star as can be seen on the top of the wand in her left hand.

I have again opened a mastodon account, and this time I think the experience is better. Not so much anxiety moderation and NSFW-panic. It helped moving away from mastodon.art which is an annoying place.

So I have posted some of my older Katharsisdrill works again (as they haven't seen them on Mastodon). And these two sort of struck the current times pretty well, so I thought that after two years I might repost them. Now that my old orderly account is gone anyway I thought that I can mix some of my older works into the stream without being too annoying.

District heating facility

So this is artwork no. 402 (I obviously haven't gotten over my 400 artwork jubilee!)

One day my art will be the go to art for small, idealistic publishers who specialize in retro-realpaper-paperback-pulp-scifi. "Shit we haven't got enough money for the artwork on the cover, we'll have to take one of the kitchy Katharsisdrill cityscapes."

The title is inspired by one of the many fantastic features which makes Scandinavians suffer from a grim exceptionalism that makes other people seem modest and down to earth in comparison. No! It is not Norwegian prisons, It is not the Finnish School system, It is not fashionable Swedish wooden shoes on tall, sexy blonds... It is: The Danish district heating model.

The Danish district heating model is unique in its extensive range. District heating is part of Danish welfare history and it contributes to values beyond the economically measurable.

So... this is a jubilee!

There are now 400 free open culture artworks on my website. I have been making them for the last seven years, in the beginning mainly as an outlet for artworks that I knew I would never publish under my own name and which could then just as well be given away under the Creative Commons license.

Slowly my interest for the project grew and I am now publishing most of the digital works I make under the Katharsisdrill pseudonym, creating out in the blue... out in the internet.

This is a portrait of a grumpy old sailor, not one bit more wise and savvy than the day he as a 19 year old lad went to sea.

Today I made a new digital painting... I have been stuck for a while not being in the best mood, but now... I'm back.

This painting is called, Mørkborg, which in Danish (and Norwegian) means Dark Fortress. As usual I haven't decided anything about what it is you are seeing, except for what is obvious: a woman in red with a ornamental staff or sceptre sit on a rock watching a sinister concrete city.

Kore returns home

I made this a couple of weeks ago, but got stuck after the initiation on the war of Ukraine. Art seems meaningless every time a new war breaks out. But... what else can I do.

This painting is called, Kore returns home, and refers to a mythological tale. Kore the daughter of Demeter was stolen by Hades, and dragged to the realm of the dead where she resided as a queen under the name of Persephone. Her mother, the goddess of agriculture, was devastated and refused to let anything grow until her daughter was returned to her. So a deal was brokered by the Gods. In the winter Kore was to be with Hades, in the summer she would be with her mother... The Eleusinian Mysteries was founded on this myth.

After a year of being down and out, because of my fucking bad health, I haven't been able to work on the projects I have with people around the world - I haven't been able to work on my own projects actually. I simply couldn't be arsed and was too busy whining and being a nuisance to my surroundings. Seems I have totally ignored some e-mails from a young bloke in Nigeria with which I have planned a book about the evil professor Otagburuagu, him writing and me making the illustrations. He just sent me a new draft of the story and it is clever, colourful, has a very surprising ending - and is wild juju pulp fiction.

Hopefully I will manage to get back up and do both a Kickstarter for my second Phill album and one for the Professor Otagburuagu...

Above is some of the Illustrations I have already made for the project. I think I will be reworking them, maybe doing them in black and white... maybe not... we'll see.

Laura the Laureate

With plenty of time on my hand I am slowly nearing the 400 mark in my #freeculture #library (found here). I am not overly fond of this style of painting - Turner made a lot of strange things in way, all the romantics loved strange washes that would give the "mysterious" feel that they wanted. But the work takes me by the hand and walk down some of those gloomy wooden paths... and as always I follow.

I was also in doubt with the title (which is rare). I considered calling her Calafia, the fictitious queen that gave name to California. But instead I wen't for Laura, who I have mentioned in the explanation to my last work. By that logic I should also make a digi-painting of Benson the boozy.

The Spire of FET

Right now I create at leat one digital painting a day. Before February is over I will have more than 400 artworks on my website (https://katharsisdrill.art/art/). Sometimes I wonder what the fuck I am doing, and how I can benefit myself (beyond the sheer joy of sharing :) I don't know to be honest, and right now I just work like a madman to trip out and get away.

Yesterevening I made this one which is the last part of a small series of science fiction paintings that could easily be found on sci-fi paperbacks from the eighties and ahead. It is called: “The Spire of FET”. I sure got to use the line tool in Krita.

The Towers of Language

As my other profile, the one containing my art project Katharsisdrill is down. I will be posting new artworks here until I know where I stand. Maybe I will move to a new pod that I control myself and then repost all the artworks there. Then you can see it all again. There now 383 different free culture artworks in the project.
