Blue 2...

Another in blue.
Actually if it were a bird I'd describe it as "tri-color", with white, and grey - and /or black, or together as a color or shade. šŸ˜‰

Attempting to ID.... ok, it's some sort of "adult owl butterfly". šŸ¦‰ šŸ¦‹
Like the one with "eyes" for disguise/protection.

Well, it's over now, if it was blue, &/or Stormy.
So many "Blue" & "Blues" songs in title and substance. šŸŽ¶ Sit back and put yourself in this great concert venue listening live.

## Stormy Monday

Lots of rain here, and it's one of my all-time performances of this classic. šŸŒ© Live at the Fillmore East. The Holy Grail for many.
Lyrics in the YT description. But it's the music. They were legend - in the biz - for high energy like this, blues & rock, until dawn.

Part 2 / Lowell George Delight

Long Distance Love

(Lyrics are below &/or on the video)

Seeing that vid was what reminded me of of so much that he and his friends brought to American music.
An intro to Little Feat too... Enjoy! Happy Sunday or whenever day. šŸŽ¶. Isn't the Internet lovely?

~~
Earlier I posted a live session with Bonnie Raitt and Lowell George doing Winwood's Can't Find My Way Home.
That was a 1972 'bootleg' from the studio, totally live. Bonnie makes a point of calling (the late, great) Lowell George "cute!"
50 years ago as I post this! (2022) Remembering Lowell George now, who like Duane Allman, went way too soon. :(

The YT gods just smiled on me and served this up, from that same exact era, but with the focus on Lowell and his song. It's (IMM) one of the most beautiful songs out of Little Feat, almost like a Michelle, or Angie. The Feats were always the ultimate studio musicians, super-tight, like Steeleye Dan, say, but more emphasis on the rhythm & guitar section than orchestral arrangements.

Anyway, for anyone familiar or not with Little Feat .... Here the song raw and new and plainly shown, again, sort of like "Get Back" or that Raitt bit. Real, and well recorded overall, especially in the recording studio rather than radio setting. But live takes.

Here is a song which - like Willin' and a few other country crooners, and the beautiful All That You Dream, - is both sweet and well arranged. When this song came along, their studio (vinyl) albums were highly polished; they were at home there, not touring much.

Long story short: I'm serving this up first, as it just hit me over the head and inspired me to share the video and the back-story.

AFTER you watch this ancient (1/2 century) old filming of the early days of this song, where you can see Lowell George like few have...as songwriter. After you see this song, I recommend you see/hear how it finally came out. Polished, and he can play the guitar.

Lyrics to enjoy the early version with below. Plus a few references at the end of the end.

Long Distance Love
Oh, hello... give me missing persons, they said
"What is it that you need"?
I said, oh, I need her so
They said you've got to stop your pleading
And no matter what I do, even pray to heaven above
All you'll ever get from her is
Long distance love
I read the papers
And I got the Blues
I was so sad to hear the news
Help wanted, but not enough
You know these times are gettin' rough
'Cause no matter what I do
I even pray to heaven above
All I ever get from her is
Long distance love
Whoo, oo, oo
You know her toes were so pretty
And her laugh so sweet
I wonder does she know
Does she know she hurt me so?
'Cause no matter what I do
I even pray to heaven above
All I seem to get from her is
Long distance love
Ohoo, long distance love
Ohoo, oo, oo
  -Lowell T George

On the road again (summer 2022), and "a long way gone... down this wild road"

The Long Way Around (Jackson Browne, Austin City Limits)

I don't know what to say about these days
I'm seeing people changing in the strangest ways
Even in the richer neighborhoods
People don't know when they've got it good
They've got the envy and they've got it bad

When I was a kid everything I did was trying to be free
Running up and down Tinsel Town with the fire inside of me
My planets all in retrograde, the best of all my plans got laid
I made my breaks and some mistakes
Just not the ones people think I made

I'm a long way gone
Down this wild road I'm on
It's going to take me where I'm bound
But it's the long way around

It's a little hard keeping track of what's gone wrong
The covenant unravels and the news just rolls along
I could feel my memory letting go some two or three disasters ago
It's hard to say which did more ill
Citizens United or the Gulf oil spill

I'm a long way gone
Down this wild road I'm on
It's going to take me where I'm bound
But it's the long way around

It's never been that hard to buy a gun
Now they'll sell a Glock 19 to just about anyone
The seeds of tragedy are there
In what we feel we have the right to bear
To watch our children come to harm
There in the safety of our arms
With all we disagree about the passions burn, the heart goes out

And we're a long way gone
Down this wild road we're on
It's going to take us where we're bound
It's just the long way around

After #Caturday, sometimes see...

Cat Fever

Cat Fever - Little Feat
Livin' in strange dreams, takin' prescribed medication
Where will it take me, where will it take me?
My vision's all marred by a careless chance visit on the part of me

I got cat fever, cat fever

Well, my breathin' is harder sittin' in back of the theater
When will she make me, huh, I got her to take me
Forgot about fixin' the leak in my faucet
What come over me?

Whoa, I'll let my dogs loose, prayin' that they will protect me
Give me a bullet, mmm, one silver bullet
I won't let them get me 'cause the demon figures that are after me
Got cat fever, whew

Got the urge? A lesser known Joni song:

Joni Mitchell - Urge For Going

URGE FOR GOING
I awoke today and found the frost perched on the town
It hovered in a frozen sky, then it gobbled summer down
When the sun turns traitor cold
And all trees are shivering in a naked row
I get the urge for going but I never seem to go
I get the urge for going
When the meadow grass is turning brown

Summertime is falling down and winter is closing in
I had me a man in summertime
He had summer-colored skin
And not another girl in town
My darling's heart could win
But when the leaves fell on the ground
And bully winds came around pushed them face down in the snow
He got the urge for going and I had to let him go
He got the urge for going
When the meadow grass was turning brown

And summertime was falling down and winter was closing in
Now the warriors of winter they gave a cold triumphant shout
And all that stays is dying and all that lives is getting out
See the geese in chevron flight flapping and racing on before the snow
They've got the urge for going and they've got the wings so they can go
They get the urge for going
When the meadow grass is turning brown

Summertime is falling down and winter is closing in

I'll ply the fire with kindling and pull the blankets to my chin
I'll lock the vagrant winter out and I'll bolt my wandering in
I'd like to call back summertime and have her stay for just another month or so
But she's got the urge for going so I guess she'll have to go
She get the urge for going when the meadow grass is turning brown
And all her empires are falling down
And winter's closing in
And I get the urge for going when the meadow grass is turning brown
And summertime is falling down

Oh, I missed this release... from this past summer. And perfectly titled/themed for these days...
But YouTube served it up just now, sneakily. By the time this hooked my attention, I realized it's from an old favorite, still sounding golden, and so clearly/purely Jackson Browne. Still touring... and coming to my neighborhood this summer! Hm...

Brrr...
Temps quickly rising from 10 to 30 (F), windy... and I'm just hearing the arrival of the first expected "freezing rain" drops.

And this dropped in too. Into mind. [Note for next rainy day: "I just dropped in to see what condition..."]. Meanwhile...

A Hard Rainā€™s A-Gonna Fall

WRITTEN BY: BOB DYLAN

Oh, where have you been, my blue-eyed son?

Oh, where have you been, my darling young one?

Iā€™ve stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains

Iā€™ve walked and Iā€™ve crawled on six crooked highways

Iā€™ve stepped in the middle of seven sad forests

Iā€™ve been out in front of a dozen dead oceans

Iā€™ve been ten thousand miles in the mouth of a graveyard

And itā€™s a hard, and itā€™s a hard, itā€™s a hard, and itā€™s a hard

And itā€™s a hard rainā€™s a-gonna fall

Oh, what did you see, my blue-eyed son?

Oh, what did you see, my darling young one?

I saw a newborn baby with wild wolves all around it

I saw a highway of diamonds with nobody on it

I saw a black branch with blood that kept drippinā€™

I saw a room full of men with their hammers a-bleedinā€™

I saw a white ladder all covered with water

I saw ten thousand talkers whose tongues were all broken

I saw guns and sharp swords in the hands of young children

And itā€™s a hard, and itā€™s a hard, itā€™s a hard, itā€™s a hard

And itā€™s a hard rainā€™s a-gonna fall

And what did you hear, my blue-eyed son?

And what did you hear, my darling young one?

I heard the sound of a thunder, it roared out a warninā€™

Heard the roar of a wave that could drown the whole world

Heard one hundred drummers whose hands were a-blazinā€™

Heard ten thousand whisperinā€™ and nobody listeninā€™

Heard one person starve, I heard many people laughinā€™

Heard the song of a poet who died in the gutter

Heard the sound of a clown who cried in the alley

And itā€™s a hard, and itā€™s a hard, itā€™s a hard, itā€™s a hard

And itā€™s a hard rainā€™s a-gonna fall

Oh, who did you meet, my blue-eyed son?

Who did you meet, my darling young one?

I met a young child beside a dead pony

I met a white man who walked a black dog

I met a young woman whose body was burning

I met a young girl, she gave me a rainbow

I met one man who was wounded in love

I met another man who was wounded with hatred

And itā€™s a hard, itā€™s a hard, itā€™s a hard, itā€™s a hard

Itā€™s a hard rainā€™s a-gonna fall

Oh, whatā€™ll you do now, my blue-eyed son?

Oh, whatā€™ll you do now, my darling young one?

Iā€™m a-goinā€™ back out ā€™fore the rain starts a-fallinā€™

Iā€™ll walk to the depths of the deepest black forest

Where the people are many and their hands are all empty

Where the pellets of poison are flooding their waters

Where the home in the valley meets the damp dirty prison

Where the executionerā€™s face is always well hidden

Where hunger is ugly, where souls are forgotten

Where black is the color, where none is the number

And Iā€™ll tell it and think it and speak it and breathe it

And reflect it from the mountain so all souls can see it

Then Iā€™ll stand on the ocean until I start sinkinā€™

But Iā€™ll know my song well before I start singinā€™

And itā€™s a hard, itā€™s a hard, itā€™s a hard, itā€™s a hard

Itā€™s a hard rainā€™s a-gonna fall
