Accused of being agents of the Islamic Republic, Iranians in exile increasingly fear for their safety

Negar Mortazavi is an Iranian journalist and commentator who for many years has been seen as a leading authority on the country and its place in the world.

Like many in the Iranian diaspora, she regards herself as an "exile" from the land in which she was born, and has faced harassment from the Iranian government over her work.

Despite this, she has also for years faced repeated accusations of being an apologist or outright agent of the Islamic Republic. Her tweets are bombarded from an array of accounts - many created expressly to troll - calling her a "liar" or warning that she will "pay the price" for her alleged support of the government.

Unconfirmed report says that the head of Bsij Forces in Ziba Kenar, by the Caspian Seas was assassinated in front of his home today.

As much as I despise these monsters, killing IRGC and Basij will only push Iran further toward a civil war.

The disgusting propaganda wing of Iranian diaspora, by the support and fundings of MKO(gang or Rajavi), Pahlavi loyalists and AIPAC funded Maesoume (Masih) Alinejad sharing so many stupid photoshopped images that then spread like wildfire over social media

The brutality of the regime doesn't need these kinds of action. But these groups pushing for escalation of the conflict and turning the uprising into a full blown civil war which then later hoping that the US/NATO will interfere, sharing these stupid images and making stories up about the victims.

Reporting them on Twitter is almost impossible with the new interface that removed the option reporting the post as fake.

I am afraid, it will get even worse under Musk.

Funny thing is the shotguns and bullets used by IRGC are made in UK.

I just hope that the extremists don't hijack the movement and push for armed uprising.

More than anything, the lack of women's political participation plays an important role in Iran's poor ranking. Germany, for example, moved up one spot to 10 in the latest report because of the growing participation of women in politics.

An interview with the scholar Asef Bayat widely shared by Iranians — and now banned by the Tehran authorities — is published by New Lines in English translation for the first time

The following interview with Asef Bayat was published in Persian on Oct. 10 by the Tehran daily Etemaad. Shortly after its publication, the Iranian authorities ordered the newspaper to take the interview down from its website. The interview had already gone viral in Iran and abroad, and several other outlets that had reposted it were likewise forced to unpublish it. We do not know what reasons, if any, the authorities gave for the ban; perhaps it was due to the analysis provided by Bayat, a well-respected scholar of social movements and revolutions influential within Iran’s intellectual and political circles. Multiple websites inside Iran currently continue to carry the interview. The ban was first reported by the online Radio Farda. Over the following days, the interview was shared in tens of thousands of social media posts among Iranians worldwide. It is published here in English translation for the first time.

Geoff Golberg takes a closer look into a college professor/Harvard law grad driving online attacks on Iranian-American women journalists and the likely role of twitter bots in amplifying the aggression.

Shahrooz, one of the more active non-sockpuppet accounts that similarly has targeted Fassihi (alleging both are part of the Iran Lobby), opts to hide behind thousands of fake Twitter Followers, which not only inflate his Followers count, but also function to artificially amplify the content of his tweets:

Among Shahrooz’s 21.1K Followers, Social Forensics has identified:

  • 436 accounts that have, on average since being created, tweeted 100 or more times per day -1,024 accounts that have, on average since being created, liked 100 or more tweets per day
  • 344 accounts that have, on average since being created, tweeted 100 or more times per day AND liked 100 or more tweets per day

Of the 344 accounts referenced above, 290 of them were created in Sep or Oct 2022 (view accounts here).

These accounts all amplify the same accounts and hashtags, indicative of a script/automation being used to mislead others (gaming hashtags to trend, for example) and disrupting the experience for Twitter users that Shahrooz opts to tag in his tweets (i.e. brigading the tagged users via bombarding their Twitter notifications).

The swedish text doesn't say anything about sending the Iranian ambassador back, but the farsi "translation of the tweet that is being copied and shared by 100s of accounts wrongfully say that.

It's truly upsetting and infuriating to see these assholes hijack the social media with their half truth and pure lies.

Who is behind these accounts? Who financed them?

This tweet has been massively shared by many accounts on Twitter, including 1000s of bots and fake accounts.

There has been no mention of "strip search" in any of the videos and telegram posts about the insident and the video shared by Radio Farda (voice CIA in Persian) that this tweet refer to hasn't said any such thing either.

It's truly upsetting to see these fake stories spread like wildfire and people sharing it without any hesitation or critical thinking.

Another unconfirmed death of a teenage girl after she was beaten in the head by the head by IRGC riot police

17 years e Arnika QaemMaqhami who died lastweek of the injuries she received when she was beaten by security forces during a protest in Tehran.

The reports from government news agency claim that she fell from the window of her bedroom window and her injuries were results of he fall.

Another 16 year old student of the Sadr highschool in Tehran was hospitalized yesterday after she was beaten by the head master of the high school.

There are no reliable reports about her condition available at the moment.

It's just sad to see these young people fall victims on a daily basis.

If the reports from opposition sources are true, the head master of the HS is directly responsible for her death and the family will be able to call for his prosecution (not likely to happen).
