We're back to a full group for this session of Traveller, and are now just at the point where the PCs are ready to begin the mission to enter the Anundarluu. I expected us to be at this point some weeks ago, but illness and side quests have delayed things a bit.

The in-game clock has clicked around to the start of 1107. One thing that I do like about Traveller is that time moves on, unlike in some other games where you seem to go from 1st to 20th level in a few months. It gives opportunity to have things happening in the background at a reasonable pace.

I normally use TravellerMap when running Traveller adventures, but the Deepnight Revelation campaign will be taking the PCs to places TravellerMap doesn't cover, so I'll be using my own WorldGen to populate these sectors.

I've also using it to flesh out the systems in charted space, which means adding better support for binary and triple star systems since a lot of the UWP data includes such systems. So far, 56,244 planets and moons have been mapped, across 1,798 systems and 14 (mostly empty) sectors.

And I've just realised I've already used 248GB of a 1TB disk. I think I need a bigger drive.

Those of you in the #RPG world recently may not be too familiar with #burningwheel . I stumbled on a pretty good overview of the philosophy therein that really makes me want to look at it even more along with the ActualPlay Youtube streams.

A good quote from the post:

"The game has a strong underlying philosophy, and it continues to be best-in-class for teaching trad folks what is de rigueur in much indie-style play: #radicaltransparency, strong authorial collaboration among everyone at the table and not just the GM, that uncertainty can be good, that #consent is powerful." #indie

So I'm looking at RPG rules again I really like the way the Apocalypse World Engine works with moves for both the players and MC. I am not so keen on the conceit of unique (and proliferating) playbooks and the asymmetric nature of the rules set. Specifically I'm looking at Dungeon World and it seems to be an unwritten rule that there is no direct player on player conflict. Has anyone out there played with modifying and do you have any thoughts on how that could work?

The Song of the Stormwing

I was at Indiemeet today (unfortuntely I was only able to make it for one session) and had a chance to play a game of one of the new Fall of Magic variants from the "Songs from the Axe and Fiddle" zine expansion, namely the Song of the Storm Wing. This variant sees the Magus replaced by the amnesiac captain of the Stormwing which is itself missing on the Sightless Sea. The journey takes place just using the island cards from the main game.

As a result it's a much shorter play than the full Fall of Magic but has much of the same qualities.

The result of our game found the captain to be a ghost or thrall magical bound to bring new victims to the Drowning Library where they were sacrificed to hold back the waters threatening to engulf the library and its mysterious custodians.

I've ended up playing Blood Red Blossoms twice this year and haven't managed to have a character survive yet (which is good I suppose).

It's an interesting #rpg that feels a bit flawed but whose central premise of demon hunters who must agree to succeed and where the challenge for the characters is the moral dilemmias that stem from the the vows they've sworn.

This thread is for people who want to talk to me about these applications. They allow people to generate a mini-setting including a map, a key, and NPCs, with but one click, powered by the greatest collection of random tables I know. 😅
I keep creating these threads whenever the previous thread reaches about 100 comments because it starts being unwieldy.
