Vliegtuigen, treinen, auto’s en schepen razen over het aangezicht der aarde, sneller en sneller. Van Amsterdam naar Parijs is maar een stap, naar Stamboel een weekend en naar Melbourne een vacantiereisje.

En daarom, als ge reizen wilt, wacht dan niet langer maar reis nu! Morgen zullen er geen afstanden meer zijn. Dan zal alles, wat vandaag nog onbereikbaar en begeerlijk is, nabij en waardeloos zijn!”

Reis nu, want wat vandaag het doel van een ontdekkingsreis is, zal morgen een halte zijn aan de buslijn, die langs Uw huis loopt!

Wat vandaag Uw bivak is in het land waar geen land meer achter is, zal morgen het golfterrein van het Grand Hôtel wezen!

Wat vandaag een trotsche nomadenstam is, zal morgen een stakende vakvereniging op een petroleumveld zijn!

Reis nu, Voor het te laat is! Morgen zullen de tropen luchtgekoeld, de poolstreken centraal verwarmd en de woestijnen van stroomend water voorzien zijn!

Wacht niet tot de Gobi als bouwterrein wordt verkaveld!

Wacht niet tot de Alpen in werkverschaffing worden geslecht!

Wacht niet tot de golfstroom koud en warm water kan geven naar wensch!

Neen, wacht niet, want ik zeg U, de dag zal komen dat de mensch niets meer te veroveren zal hebben. Hij zal eb en vloed, onweer en aardbeving, dag en nacht hebben onderworpen. En dan zal hij doelloos over de getemde aarde razen en ondergaan, omdat hij niets meer te wenschen heeft!

En daarom, reis nu! Het is al bijna te laat. Grammofoon, bioscoop en radio zult ge nauwelijks meer kunnen ontvluchten. Ge zult Hindemith hooren in het Braziliaansche oerwoud, ge zult Greta Garbo zien in een blokhut aan de Hudsonbaai en ge zult de triomfen van Ajax vernemen in een karavaanserai in Afghanistan!

Haast U daarom! Misschien vindt ge nog een land, waar in plaats van Hindemith, Garbo en Ajax de Goddelijke stilte heerscht, die het begin en het eind der dingen is.

Maar haast U, want morgen zal men de aarde stroomlijnen om haar sneller door het heelal te laten schieten! ….

We did some character generation for the Deepnight Revelation command crew for our #Traveller game, so that the players will have a voice in directing the mission, as well as their existing 'away team' characters.

A long while ago I came up with some rough rules for #Traveller to determine how much of star system a star port actually monitors with sensors, and recently decided that it might be useful to put this information on my star system maps so myself and players can plan how to avoid being spotted.

This week's Traveller session sees the crew jumping into the Anundarluu nebula, a strange region in Reft. They're heading to explore a comet where the Deepnight Endeavour picked up its infection from. During the jump though, some of the crew start getting strange dreams.

We're back to a full group for this session of Traveller, and are now just at the point where the PCs are ready to begin the mission to enter the Anundarluu. I expected us to be at this point some weeks ago, but illness and side quests have delayed things a bit.

The in-game clock has clicked around to the start of 1107. One thing that I do like about Traveller is that time moves on, unlike in some other games where you seem to go from 1st to 20th level in a few months. It gives opportunity to have things happening in the background at a reasonable pace.

I normally use TravellerMap when running Traveller adventures, but the Deepnight Revelation campaign will be taking the PCs to places TravellerMap doesn't cover, so I'll be using my own WorldGen to populate these sectors.

I've also using it to flesh out the systems in charted space, which means adding better support for binary and triple star systems since a lot of the UWP data includes such systems. So far, 56,244 planets and moons have been mapped, across 1,798 systems and 14 (mostly empty) sectors.

And I've just realised I've already used 248GB of a 1TB disk. I think I need a bigger drive.

I am shortly (like within the next 2 weeks) going to be starting a play be email game of trading in 17th century Europe.
It’s like the Han Solo game in Traveller but just before The 30 Years War.
It is a test of rules I’ve been writing. They’re for LotFP but also work as a stand-alone trading and traveling game - by horse, cart, ship and letter of credit.

The year is 1599. You play a junior member of a rich European family. You have been loaned 1000sp with which to make your fortune in the next 2 years - whoever comes back with the most profit gets to be part of the East India Company and sail to the Spice Islands where money literally grows on trees.

Play will start in 1-week turns, (one week of game time = 1 week of real time) but hopefully speed up to 1 month per week. It will be conducted over email and/or discord, so it survives the demise of G+. There’s a map and info available about ports, wars etc. You decide what you’re going to do, how you’re using your money, where you’re going, and I DM it all, using bespoke rules for trade and sea fights. There is potential to get into trouble with pirates, capture each other, spread rumours, run blockades etc along the way.
