Definitely the buttons, the oft-overlooked indispensable invention, and same can be said of bound books (a vast improvement over scrolls). Both are essential parts of my particular time machine.

So today is Button Day (established in 1938). My grandma left me her collection of buttons, along with two of her sewing baskets, and a biscuit tin full of notions (a British band name, perhaps? “Biscuit Tin of Notions”).What are things that connect you with your past? Which of them supports your growth? Which of them keeps you tethered to a version of yourself that no longer serves your highest good?

Overhead shot of a glass jar full of a variety of old buttons that has been placed on my plaid dining room tablecloth. In the upper right corner, you can see a strip of black and white photos of me and two of my daughters (the kind from an old-fashioned photo booth).

https://bark.lgbt/@keeya/113102667842053502 keeya@bark.lgbt - Some new stuff. :blobfoxpeekowo:  I've added this version of the bag with cute orange large foxes and even cuter purple Eevee lining inside. If you want to get one of them, you can either have it from the link below now or you can pick it up without having to pay shipping at Eurofurence 28. I don't have a table there but will be at the black market... I mean Artist Alley! :blobfoxpirate:

If you want to pre-order to pick it up at EF, please let me know so I can reserve one. Payment can be at EF via SEPA, Paypal or cash.

That's men for ya.

The amount of men who walk into our shop and ask us to fix their clothes is staggering. We are a fabric and craft op shop, we do not do mending and alterations for the general public. We will do no or low cost sewing for people who can't afford new clothing but we simply don't have the staff or the time for well-off men who can be better served going to an actual alterations and mending business. We struggle to find volunteers simply to staff the stores, much less sort and price all the donations and ready them for display. Our sewing volunteers are making premmie clothes or activity lap blankets for people with dementia or quilts for kids who've had to leave the family home due to violence. Every class we have has waiting lists and we can't find teachers to volunteer.

Men, particularly middle class men, can learn to sew for themselves. Men can make absolutely beautiful garments and other objects. Men do themselves no favours with learned helplessness. Sewing, mending, and alterations are not a feminised favour to men. We get to decide who we dedicate our labour to.
