Immer raus damit. 😉

I have 2 web hosting accounts and I think I will merge the 2 and keep only one that support self hosting of a Mastodon server.

Been busy moving SQL databases from the one site to another to keep the old blog, kids memory page and my wife’s projects into one. It’s kind of painful to see how rusty I am to do all these things. But I do it slowly but safe. Don’t want to lose any data in the process.

Next is to move Taluma.net to WordPress and stop paying €19 a month plus €14 a month for having an email with Wix.

Together it will be an extra 100 per month saving.

Putting my 2TB external disk on the server to have double copy of all the files both on my life time subscription to pCloud.com and local.

Living on 25% of my old salary is harder than anticipated, so time to cut back on all spil expenses to focus on simplicity and cost cutting.

Ditch Shared Hosting: Digital Ocean (or other hosting provider) plus CyberPanel - Easy and Fast Web Hosting for WordPress, etc.

Cyberpanel is a free and open-source alternative to cPanel and similar panel management servers. The linked video shows how to start from scratch with a $6 pm VPS on Digital Ocean, but you could in fact use any VPS or other hosting, and just install CyberPanel.

CyberPanel includes all the tools you need to set up and securely manage one or more WordPress websites. It is a bit weaker than cPanel/Webuzo/Softacluous as far as including installation scripts to install lots of other applications. But this does not mean you cannot install them yourself, there are just no one-click installation scripts to do that. For example CyberPanel's site has a blog post showing how to install Drupal too.

Which CMS system (or something else entirely) would you recommend for small to medium websites and respective businesses/organizations?

Idea is to host a server and run several sites off it, each one of which designable, editable and maintainable by the respective folks, all without much or any technical knowledge and desire of coding. Nothing too fancy required, mainly text content and pictures/videos, perhaps some mail contact forms and basic stuff like that, but nothing crazy like a huge webshop or the like.
The back-end Linux server itself would be taken care of by competent SysAdmin.

What are the best options here to get people going either from scratch or importing existing sites and take it from there? Which CMS and server setup would you recommend with a good Benefit to PITA ratio? ;-)

Appreciate your replies already...
