Stay Free
I'm not sure, but I'm guessing not many, if any, records were made with 100% open source and free software. And that includes everything from recording to artwork and mastering. Even my brain is reasonably free. Our goal is to create something completely analog in the end. You can still listen to a vinyl record even when the power goes out, and our instruments don't need any either, but it's so nice when the tube amp distorts. https://sqrecords.de

Lego Ideas - Working Turing Machine

What is a #Turing machine?

Depending on who you ask, it's either an abstract model of an algorithmic machine or an esoteric programming language. It's named after its creator, Alan Turing– an English #cryptologist.
The machine consists of:

  • an infinitely long (in real life: long enough to do all practical programs) tape with symbols that can be moved left and right
  • a "head" over one of the symbols that can read it and overwrite it with a new one,
  • some registers containing the state of the machine,
  • a table linking each combination of state and symbol to an instruction what to do next.

…and the working cycle of the machine looks like this:

  • read the symbol from the tape
  • based on the symbol and the state, see what to do next in the table
  • based on the instruction, go to a new state and print a new symbol in place of the one that has been read
  • also based on the instruction, move the tape 1 symbol left or right or exit the program

The cycle continues until the machine stops. This way it can execute any computer algorithm.

"High-resolution, untethered haptic gloves using electroosmotic pump arrays".

The future of haptics in VR?

They say the entire system can fit on the hand and wrist including the electronics and batteries.

The haptic glove uses "high resolution shape arrays for each fingertip."

Each "haptic pixel is fluidically driven by an ultra small embedded electroosmotic pump."

The pumps are "solid state with no valves, meaning the only thing moving is the touch surface itself."

The feeling effects enabled by this include contact pressure when touching a virtual object, "fine-grain" contact sensations for example for the edge of a virtual box, ablitiy to feel individual violin strings, ability to feel virtual skin deformation, ability to feel virtual button springs, mechanical sliders, and so fourth, ability to distinguish virtual metal, woon grain, corduroy, and other textures, and "haptic animations" such as wind, mechanical vibration, water drops, and electrical shocks.

Ich! Will! Analog! Sein!

Ob Bank, Arztpraxis oder Carsharing – alle setzen auf digitalen Zugang. Wer nicht digital ist, wird ausgeschlossen.

Fractals generated by visual feedback. By "visual feedback", we mean, you take a camera and point it at a screen, then you take the output of the camera and put it on the screen.

This machine explores a sophisticated setup of this. Everything with analog control knobs.

The video generated has, to my eyes, a "70s" vibe, but way more sophisticated than anything that ever existed in the 70s.

Here's my cover of #JeanMichelJarre's "Oxygene pt. 4"! The single is out now:
https://ZYXDance.lnk.to/KEBUOxygene

This #song will also be #available on my #upcoming #album "Synthesizer Legends - Volume 1", which is a #collection of cover #tunes of #famous and less well-known #instrumental #synthesizer gems from the eighties. Some of the #songs on the album have been part of my #live repertoire for many years already, while other songs are completely new arrangements. The third single from the album is one of the newer arrangements: Jean Michel Jarre's legendary "Oxygene, pt.4." The music was recorded using only #analog #synthesizers and analog #drum #machines.

#Arranged, #performed, #recorded, #mixed and #mastered by Kebu / #SebastianTeir.
