Authorities to open underground schools in Zaporizhzhia Oblast by late October

Local authorities plan to open some of the six #underground #schools being built in the southeastern city of#Zaporizhzhia and the surrounding region by late October, Zaporizhzhia Oblast Governor Ivan Fedorov said on Aug. 11.

Kharkiv was the first Ukrainian city where the concept of underground schools was introduced to ensure offline education despite regular Russian attacks. The first school was established in #Kharkiv's #metro.

Russia suffered 'astronomical' losses on Kharkiv front, NATO source suggests

Russia suffered "astronomical" losses while attempting to advance in Kharkiv Oblast, European Pravda reported on June 13, citing a NATO official who spoke on condition of anonymity during a NATO defense ministers meeting in Brussels.

Russia launched a new offensive on May 10 in northern Kharkiv Oblast in a push that involved as many as 30,000 troops, according to a Ukrainian official.

Russian forces have so far advanced less than 10 kilometers into Ukrainian territory and have not managed to seize control of Vovchansk, a city with a pre-2022 population of around 17,000.

"I would also add that the gains in Kharkiv Oblast seem to have come at a rather high price for Russia," European Pravda cited the NATO official.

"Russia likely suffered losses of almost 1,000 people a day in May, which is quite an astronomical figure," the official reportedly said, referring to the number of fatalities.

Russia claims they destroyed an Ukrainian storage facility, located in the underground parking of a shopping center, resulting in massive secondary explosions, but ukraine claims the targets were civilians and had no military purpose.

Both sides have stepped up the use of suicide drones, long range rockets and missiles as well as newly developed remote controlled armored vehicles mainly focused on targeting bunkers and soldiers.

There are no sign of talks about ending this bloody conflict and both sides spreading propaganda and lie about their progress or "enemy" losses. It's impossible to know what to believe, but the material and human losses on the both sides are significant including many civilians caught in between.

Russia- #France relations are showing a sharp deterioration after the Russian strike on a mercenary base in Kharkiv, which killed more than 60 and injured at least 20 soldiers.

Moscow today summoned the French ambassador to the foreign ministry for an explanation regarding the unprecedented number of dead French soldiers in Kharkiv.

Moscow considers that these are soldiers of the regular French #Army, officers, special forces, advisers, etc., who were sent on behalf of the French government. This also explains their large number in a specific location in #Kharkiv and not on the front lines of the war.

— 'Russia is building a force of 100,000 soldiers to attack the northern sector of the frontline as Ukrainian commanders start to admit that their counter-offensive has stalled.

Col Serhi Cherevaty, a Ukrainian army spokesman, said that Russia had also ordered Storm-Z ex-convict battalions to prepare for battle and was firing more than 500 shells per day at Ukrainian forces around #Kupyansk.

“The enemy has concentrated a very powerful group,” he said. “More than 100,000 personnel, more than 900 tanks, more than 550 artillery systems and 370 rocket salvo systems.”

Kupyansk is a town in the northeastern #Kharkiv region of Ukraine. Ukrainian forces recaptured the town, which previously had a population of 25,000 people, in September last year."

Washington Post article from December last year had a section about Ukraine planning to blow up the Kakhobskaya dam to drench the Russian forces and to help open up the road for Ukraine to be able to attack Russian sources from multiple front

But hey, who knows history or even bothers to remember such an ancient story.
