The little set-up of IKEA Växer Hydroponic by the balcony door is giving me new produce almost daily.

Have cut back about half of the plants due to aphids attack and soil gnats like bugs growing in the substrate of the mesh cups.

But the 2 tomato plants on the top unit are not only keep growing, but they are giving me tiny juicy cherry tomatoes all the time.

Decided to add some threads to help them stand up so they get more lights and make it more visible.

Already moved one out to a 20L #Kratky on the balcony, I may move one of these out as they are getting too big for indoor.

It's so exciting to have tomatoes growing in December.

I wasn't sure if these tomatoes would survive the winter and it's the first time I'm growing them in #Kratky Hydroponic outside. But they not only grew well, they are blooming and giving me cocktail tomatoes almost every day.

Added some support for them to stand up so they get more sunshine and hopefully it will help them grow even more.

The one plant has more #tomatoes than leaves. It's so exciting.

Look what was hiding in the corner of my balcony.

One of the 3 hydroponic Kratky tomatoes I started a few months ago is doing really well and I missed the blooming period and was surprised to see the tomatoes growing in the back.

Not expecting much, I just did it because I gate seeing the balcony empty in the winter. I guess tomatoes like the climate of South of France more than I expected.

Thanks to all the great tips I got from people, my kratky pepper plant that was dying and was covered with aphids is now thriving and 5 fully grown peppers and lots of tiny ones.

The solution of 1 table spoon of organic dishwashing soap with one table spoon of Neem oil in 2L spray bottle killed all the aphids (after washing it off with water in the bathroom) and adding 1/3rd of the container with nutrients and water keeps getting the plants well fed and happy.

Have a problem and a dilemma.

This is my Kratky Hydroponic pepper plants.

It has been growing so well in the past 6 weeks and has plenty of peppers and flowers.

But, the problem is that the 5L container is almost empty and I had problem with refilling #Kratky units before and really really don't want to harm this beautiful plant.

I was thinking about moving it into a 20L bucket, and trim the roots before putting it into althe 2/3rd filled bucket. But I don't want to show k it either.

The other problem is that it's covered with #aphids. Forgot to spray it with soapy water in the past few days and it's now have 1000 of those little buggers sucking the juice out of my lovely plant.

I have to make the decision today.

Kratky Hydroponic citronella plant cutting turned into a healthy plant with long and strong roots.

The reservoir is almost empty, so I have to prepare a refill to half the container so it can grow bigger and stronger.

It started as a single cutting from a plant I bought and it's now bigger than the "mother" plant after a month of growth in it's new #kratky system.

Turning a 1L yogurt container into a mini Kratky reservoir!

Bought a few yogurt from Lidl in the past few months and saved the container for using them in my gardening experiments.

They are god, food grade, pretty solid and last a long time, but they are almost transparent and cause algae growth on the roots of the plants.

Used to cover them with black paint, but then they get hot in the sun and adding aluminum foil to them works for a while but they get ripped and cracked.

This time, put a coat of black paint on the jar, and cut small pieces of aluminum foil to put on the wet paint to sit tight and stick to the container.

This say, it going to be isolated for sunshine and reflective for the heat.

Made r of them before taking pictures, so this is the last ones. I ran out of containers so it's time to visit #Lidl again to buy some more yogurt.

My first tomatoes of 2023 are probably going to be from hydroponic!

Lost most of my Tiny Tim tomatoes to soil gnats and have (once again) only 4 plants. W in hydroponics and 2 in self watering planters.

The one in Kratky is doing very well and it's healthy and clean roots are reaching down to where the nutrient rich water is. I may have to find a slightly bigger reservoir as the plant is very thirsty with all the tomatoes growing.

Exciting to see the new season is finally starting to work after a bad start with bugs and silly mistakes.

One of the best items I purchased many years ago was this 8 outlet power strip.

It has a master socket with current sensing to control the rest of the sockets.

I used to use it with my desktop to turn off all the peripherals when the computer was off.

Adjusted the current level to detect the IKEA LED grow light with an analog timer to control all the other leds, water and airpumps in the kitchen corner I use as my kitchen garden.

It saved me 5 timers as well as small current used by each unit when they are in sleep mode. It's not much, but it helps in the long run.

First fully grown TinyTim #tomato plant growing in mini #Kratky Hydroponic

I now know Tiny Tim thrives in the mix of vermiculite and Perlite and my fertilizer seems to be doing great to help it grow healthy leaves and lots of flowers.

I am afraid 1L container is not enough for it and may have to find a way to feed it from a bigger reservoir.

PS. Note to self, put date on the seedlings to be able to document it for future!

First TinyTim tomato seedling is planted into the 2L hydroponic unit.

Used 60% vermiculite and 40% perlite to fill the unit before i put the seedling that I started in coco block.

I covered the substrate with clay balls to prevent algae growth and to keep the heat of the sun to propagate to the roots. Going to cover it with either aluminum foil or paint it black.
