#cucumbers

This is a plant that started a couple of month ago after the other cucumber plant died. I'm not sure if it's the same plant or the second seed I planted in there.

But it's getting bigger every day, now it is over 2m tall and has lots of flowers. And to my surprise, quiet a few cucumbers as well.

I just hope it stays alive and produces until my kids come for the visit during the holidays.

Aaaah so excited, no more store bought cucumbers.

This is the largest one, I have over 20 growing. Wonder of I need toadd some fertilizer to the pot.

Setting up amesh network with wires so they can grow up and over our sitting area on the balcony. I might have to increase the amount of water I give it every day as the #cucumbers are getting bigger.

PS. Sorry it's hard to take good pictures with strong sun shining.

last year, I had to hand pollinate all my cucumber plants because I couldn't find any bees to do the job.

But this year, I have a lot of #bees of different types, even a chunky bumble bee visiting my #balcony every day and seems busy pollinating my cucumber and pepper plants.

I don't know what is the difference between this year and last year, but I am really enjoying it and already have some 20 baby #cucumbers on one plant.

One of the 2 cucumber plants in my 220L Kratky Hydroponic unit is an Armenian cucumber, the only two that survived the bugs.

I have a lot of tiny ones and 3 large ones growing really fast with added nutrients to the reservoir.

The 2 cucumber plants are taking over the whole right side of the balcony.

Cucumbers, cucumbers, cucumbers and more cucumbers!

This one is on a 50L soil bag (bought from the shop and just opened the bag and planted the seedling in it.

Already had 4 cucumbers from it and these 2 are ready and many more growing really fast.

I will definitely don't need to buy tomatoes until September or October this year and will have plenty of delicious ones to eat.

Unfortunately, all the #Armenian #cucumbers were destroyed by the soil gnats and I'm thinking about starting a couple of new ones for the second hydroponic unit. I just love those crunchy ones.

The other 2 pictures are of the small ones growing. Unfortunately, I have to hand pollinate all the time because I'm on the 6th floor of an apartment and only seen one pollinator this year.

Today's gardening work almost done!

Repotted some of the seedlings using the mix of #compst (2 parts) coco peat (2 parts) and #Perlite (one part) after the soil was microwaved to kill any soil gnats.

I have about 17 tiny Tim midget #tomatoes. 6 Armenian #cucumbers, 6 small cucumbers, 8 beef tomatoes and several #peppers and #spinach (not in these pictures).

Running out of space and soon I am hoping to be able to move everything out on the #balcony.

Simple solutions to increase productivity of small scale farmers in Africa!

small scale farmers around the world have to struggle with so many issues including lack of space, pest control, lack of access to healthy and organic fertilizer not to mention water that is becoming an even bigger problem in so many parts of the world.

There are many solutions that can help increase the yield of each plant by using solutions such as trellies.

During our visits in different parts of Ghana, we never saw any farmer using trellis for their tomatoes, cucumbers or eggplants.

With bamboo being widely available in many parts of ghana at very low cost, it is possible to create efficient and low cost trellis like the ones in this image to increase the efficiency of many crops and at the same time make it easier to fight the weeds and pests.

It also creates a natural shield against heavy rain and strong sunshine while making it easier for farmers to take care of their plants and harvest their produce.

Need to find a much larger container for cucumbers next year.

15L paint bucket is way too small for them. The roots are wilhite and healthy, but it "drinks" too much.

Have to fill it too often and it's hard to keep the PH and EC level under control when it takes so much water every day.

But it is definitely a huge success. Have to look for 50 or 60L containers to have serious cucumber growth.

Can be a worthy investment.
