#cucumbers

Cucumbers, cucumbers, cucumbers and more cucumbers!

This one is on a 50L soil bag (bought from the shop and just opened the bag and planted the seedling in it.

Already had 4 cucumbers from it and these 2 are ready and many more growing really fast.

I will definitely don't need to buy tomatoes until September or October this year and will have plenty of delicious ones to eat.

Unfortunately, all the #Armenian #cucumbers were destroyed by the soil gnats and I'm thinking about starting a couple of new ones for the second hydroponic unit. I just love those crunchy ones.

The other 2 pictures are of the small ones growing. Unfortunately, I have to hand pollinate all the time because I'm on the 6th floor of an apartment and only seen one pollinator this year.

Today's gardening work almost done!

Repotted some of the seedlings using the mix of #compst (2 parts) coco peat (2 parts) and #Perlite (one part) after the soil was microwaved to kill any soil gnats.

I have about 17 tiny Tim midget #tomatoes. 6 Armenian #cucumbers, 6 small cucumbers, 8 beef tomatoes and several #peppers and #spinach (not in these pictures).

Running out of space and soon I am hoping to be able to move everything out on the #balcony.

Simple solutions to increase productivity of small scale farmers in Africa!

small scale farmers around the world have to struggle with so many issues including lack of space, pest control, lack of access to healthy and organic fertilizer not to mention water that is becoming an even bigger problem in so many parts of the world.

There are many solutions that can help increase the yield of each plant by using solutions such as trellies.

During our visits in different parts of Ghana, we never saw any farmer using trellis for their tomatoes, cucumbers or eggplants.

With bamboo being widely available in many parts of ghana at very low cost, it is possible to create efficient and low cost trellis like the ones in this image to increase the efficiency of many crops and at the same time make it easier to fight the weeds and pests.

It also creates a natural shield against heavy rain and strong sunshine while making it easier for farmers to take care of their plants and harvest their produce.

Need to find a much larger container for cucumbers next year.

15L paint bucket is way too small for them. The roots are wilhite and healthy, but it "drinks" too much.

Have to fill it too often and it's hard to keep the PH and EC level under control when it takes so much water every day.

But it is definitely a huge success. Have to look for 50 or 60L containers to have serious cucumber growth.

Can be a worthy investment.

A ney attempt to make Kratktky cucumber growing.

The previous one didn't go as expected and root rott killed the plant.

Now using a 15L paint bucket painted inside with food safe paint and ready to grow some cucumbers.

Going to cover it with aluminum foil to protect from the hot sun and extra UV protection.

Will document the process later.
Ps. I'm tempted to add a solar powered USB airpump to it to make sure it succeed. I know it's cheating, but i just want a lot of cucumbers to pickle for the winter.

My biggest daily harvest ever.

Found another big cucumber hanging from the balcony hiding from my view. So 3 cucurs today (already ate one).

Whoever says having a balcony garden is not worth it, has never tasted a fresh cut cucumber from the plant with the toping of "Dalar" the pesto like mix from Northern Iran with mint, parsley, garlic and salt.

Have to decide what to do with all these tomatoes. Growing much more than personl daily consumption (plus all the ones i snack on during watering sessions).

I am not going to risk it, have bought a bunch of small solar panels enough to power.a USB based air pump while the sun is shining and will start it in an isolated 15L paint bucket instead of the 5L one i used for the tomato

Have aot of work before it is ready, clean, wash and sterilize all the buckets, make a solid holder for 2 small 12V solar panels, add the voltage regulator and acould of left over super caps to make sure I have a little storage.

Make a small box and make it sun, rain and water proof. I may end up going to the dollar store and buy some containers and paint them and cover them with aluminum foil before painting a an uv protective later.

I'm hoping to get a lot of small cucumbers to picke. Will set up 4 system with 4 different solutions to document their diffences and the amount of vegies i get from each (can be difficult because I'm rapidly running out of space on my already crowded balcony.

Let the experience begin!
