In a new paper that has yet to be peer-reviewed, the physicists propose that our universe is dominated by tachyons — a hypothetical kind of particle that always moves faster than light. Tachyons almost certainly don't exist; going faster than light violates everything we know about the causal flow of time from past to future. But the hypothetical particles are still interesting to physicists because of the small chance that even our most closely held notions, like causality, might be wrong.

Capturing the ripples of spacetime: LISA gets go-ahead

Today, ESA’s Science Programme Committee approved the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) mission, the first scientific endeavour to detect and study gravitational waves from space.

This important step, formally called ‘adoption’, recognises that the mission concept and technology are sufficiently advanced, and gives the go-ahead to build the instruments and spacecraft. This work will start in January 2025 once a European industrial contractor has been chosen.

LISA is not just one spacecraft but a constellation of three. They will trail Earth in its orbit around the Sun, forming an exquisitely accurate equilateral triangle in space. Each side of the triangle will be 2.5 million km long (more than six times the Earth-Moon distance), and the spacecraft will exchange laser beams over this distance. The launch of the three spacecraft is planned for 2035, on an Ariane 6 rocket.

Led by ESA, LISA is made possible by a collaboration between ESA, its Member State space agencies, NASA, and an international consortium of scientists (the LISA consortium).

Step right up, folks... place your bets. Odds are 100,000 to 1 that they don't detect shit.

I don't believe that making up something to account for something that needs to be explained is a solution. I think Physics/Cosmology needs to focus more on the physics of the Universe that we just don't quite understand yet... like gravity, for example.

I'm pretty sure they'll figure this out someday, but I'm also pretty sure it's not going to be magical fairy dust floating around unseen and undetectable.

I signed a petition on Action Network telling Holmdel Township Committee, Monmouth County Board of Freeholders, NJ State Legislature to Save Big Bang Antenna.

The historic Horn Antenna, which confirmed the “Big Bang Theory” of cosmology, sits on 42 beautiful acres of Holmdel Township named Crawford Hill. The location is the highest point in Monmouth County. The antenna and land are being endangered to become a high-density residential development of 100-200 townhomes.

Concerned Citizens for Informed Land Use (CILU), Friends of Holmdel Open Space (FHOS) and Preserve Holmdel (PH) say NO to developing the property and moving the Horn Antenna.
We say YES, to keeping the Horn Antenna and the property it sits on being PRESERVED IN PERPETUITY AS A PUBLIC PARK.
