Unlike #cyberpunk which relies on future tech, and #steampunk which is stories centered around tech we used to think might work, #solarpunk is based mostly on tech we have right now, that those in power refuse to quickly implement as they are beholden to those who wish to make the world a cyberpunk hellscape.
Because of this, solarpunk as an artistic genre is only a tiny part of what it means to be solarpunk as we can if we put the effort in actually LIVE solarpunk.
Living solarpunk involves us to do the following:
1. Build and learn how to maintain a sustainable community
2. #Urbanism through political advocacy and increasing our own use of #publictransit and #micro-mobility devices.
3. Waste/energy/ #consumption reduction( #degrowth )
4. #DIY / #upcycling
5. Urban #gardening and #food forestry
6. #Righttorepair
7. Community cooking/sharing/bulk investment
8. Community #freecycling
9. Digital freedom. Using #FOSS based server social media, clouds storage and software to reduce costs and advertising
10. Create Solarpunk art and telling the story of a future that could be as opposed to the #doomer mindset that causes us stress

This is what my new youtube/peertube channel will be about and I have around 8 scripts written up already, but I have to make sure I'm not forgetting anything, not forgetting explanations and reasons for things and make sure I'm making them as simple as easy to understand.

Once I complete explaining point number one, this will become a collaborative channel, with many people involved just like how solarpunk has to be. We can't do all of these things on our own, the only way to make this work is if we are all involved and connected to ensure no one slips through the cracks.

The FloorBoard — a DIY Foot Operated PC Button Pad

A foot rest with a white top. Inset at the top side is a smaller black panel with three coloured buttons, namely a blue, yellow and red one.
The FloorBoard would be useful for people with limited use of their hands hence the inclusion in the Assistive Tech channel. For example, using the foot button for ‘Control’ means that just one finger is required for ‘Copy’ (Ctrl C). This avoids the necessity of using Sticky Keys (an accessibility feature in Windows designed to assist users who may have difficulty holding down multiple keys simultaneously).

It may even appeal to gamers where it could emulate foot controls such as car and aircraft pedals. Many games requite a forward and reverse action, and I must say I do find the WASD buttons a bit difficult to move quickly with in the heat of battle.

Digitale Selbstverteidigung

Datenschutz: Do it yourself! – Public Domain Midjourney

10 obvious things I wish someone told me before I built my first PC

View of an open PC case showing cards and fan inside with cables connecting everything. A man has his face close to the case, and is using one finger to pull a black cable slightly away from a fan on the motherboard.
PC building may not be rocket science, but it isn’t a walk in the park either, especially for a first-timer. Most of us who have built a few PCs in our time have learnt these tricks already.

But these are good to read if you are thinking of building your first PC. They’re all good tips, and the great thing about “modern times” is you have YouTube and similar video platforms to usually explain and show exactly how something is best done.

Building your own PC is typically very rewarding, mainly because instead of getting nearly all “compromise” components at a price in a pre-built PC, you get to choose exactly what you want to put in your built PC. Most importantly, it gives the confidence to upgrade a component or two later on.

Every PC I’ve ever built has had it’s two or three upgrades done to it along the way. The case and keyboard have always lasted the longest, but do consider replacing a case at some point, as the newer ones have great cable management and airflow features.

Cheap DIY open-source button pad can do a lot of what an expensive Stream Deck does

Black box with a round black know that looks like a volume knob. On top of the box can be seen 20 coloured buttons in a grid of 4 wide and 5 high. The buttons have logos on that depic a fan, a headlight, warning triangle, battery, temperature gauge, etc.
This is going to be way cheaper than buying a Stream Deck, but it will certainly cost a bit of time and effort getting it together.

What it will do is allow for up to 8 different paper templates to be inserted with custom button logos (think of these templates as Stream Deck pages). The colour of each button can be changed, as well as switching between a press function or a toggle function. The button presses basically function as controller button presses or toggles.

What it is not going to do, though, is display any information back from the computer onto each button, or indicate any status back through a button, which a Stream Deck can do.

Besides that, though, it is great for having custom buttons set up for games to control lights, gears, AWD, horns, camera views, etc.

The video in the linked article does a good job of showing how it works.
