Do not use Kagi
Always funny how the bourgeoisie will laugh at acceptable free software alternatives, only to then pick paid alternatives to invasive corporate software that have the same quality or, in this case--with the search engine Kagi--are worse. And maybe equally as privacy invading as the corporate crap:
"Between the absolute blase attitude towards privacy, the 100% dedication to AI being the future of search, and the completely misguided use of the company’s limited funds, I honestly can’t see Kagi as something I could ever recommend to people. Is the search good? I mean…it’s not really much better than any other search, it heavily leverages Bing like DDG and the other indie search platforms do, the only real killer feature it has to me is the ability to block domains from your results, which I can currently only do in other search engines via a user script that doesn’t help me on mobile. But what good is filtering out all of the AI generated spamblogs on a search platform that wants to spit more AI generated bullshit at me directly?"

Firefox ESR (vanilla Debian package) removed custom search engine
"This is the first time this happened on the vanilla Debian Firefox package: Firefox just informed me that it has changed my default search engine. When clicking on "Learn more", a website informs me that:"
"From time to time, Mozilla may update the list of search engines that are available in Firefox or set as default in specific regions. If your default search engine is changed, you'll receive a notification in Firefox so you can further customize your default search settings."

'I was #kidnapped by my runaway electric #car'
source: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-67005620
He was also asked to hold the power button for a couple of seconds which also failed to stop it and the entire dashboard lit up with faults.
...
Police were forced to stop the runaway car by allowing it to slowly crash into their police van.
If you think why didn't he pull the handbrake, then you've never been in a modern electric car. Everything works via software, including the handbrake. There are no more mechanical controls. Since we all know how badly modern #software is developed and tested, as this example impressively shows, the #question remains why there is no #emergency switch that disconnects the #battery from the #engine?

Inflight Restart without starter power ?
Some channels i watch are a bit of a acquired taste. No need to explain further really. But anyways...
AgentJayZ again kills it with a very interesting video for all tech and physics nerds out there.
Can you restart a turbine, turbojet or turbofan (most likely) engine without any auxiliary power besides onboard batteries and maybe a bit of electricity from the Ram Air Turbine which bigger jets use in case of a emergency?
**spoilers start here**
What does that mean? Imagine, you're in a jet somehow. And not only both engines quit, but you're actually unable to start the APU (Auxillary Power Unit, it's own tiny turbine-generator). So you got no real options left but use the windmilling of your turbine to get it up to speeds where you can inject fuel and actually start it.
Tl;dr: This scenario is _EXTREMELY_ unlikely, just on the grounds that usually no engine quits for no reason.. But if you are there.
Well, it's not good ..... but _might_ just be possible.... Most probably killing the engine along the way. (You will necessarily overheat it in the process and shorten it's lifetime massively. ;))
O.k. sorry, enough technobabble.

Internet
I'm really annoyed by the #Internet of today:
- #Trackers and #data #collection everywhere
- #JavaScript-heavy #Web #applications instead of document-oriented #websites
- No #JavaScript most often translates to an empty page with a single sentence: "Please activate JavaScript"; the page content however is often nothing that actually requires JavaScript, the website creators just want to feel like actual #application #developers, so they re-build much of what the #browser already supplies with #inefficient and #bug heavy JavaScript code
- Content almost always behind a #login wall
- More often than not only very superficial #information
- #Ads
- Thousands of 3rd party JS files included, most of which have the only purpose of tracking you across websites
- #Misinformation and #biased #information everywhere
- Deliberately misleading advertisment, sich as "save 80% now", and artificial time pressure)
- "Best viewed on #Google #Chrome"
- "Login with Facebook"
- Newsletter subscription and cookie pop-ups featuring #dark #patterns
- #Search #engine #optimization ( #SEO ) acts in the worst interest of the user by skewing search results
- Artificial restriction of web #app functionality to promote their native apps
- Large parts of the Web are only accessible by #smartphone
- You have to provide your #phone #number to login
- If you didn't provide a phone number, your account is being blocked right after the initial login because we suspect you being malicious actor because why not (=> #Instagram, #Facebook)
- #Proprietary #platforms are required to participate in public #online life (Amazon, Google, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube)
- One-sentence-paragraphs and sloppy language (especially found in #Medium #articles)
- "We care about your #privacy" actually means: "We were forced by law to do this shit, we just want to collect and store as much information on you as possible to make money off of you now or in an undescript future"
- JavaScript code minimizer
- Large font sizes, much whitespace, large illustrative, but useless images, HD screen required to browse most websites
- Lack of #government #regulation and #law #enforcement, too many malicious actors (#spam, #phishing, etc.)
- Emotional content to increase #interaction, #clickbait
Once being an open platform geared towards information exchange and bringing people into contact, most of the public Internet today is nothing but annoying useless #marketing, #advertising and #data #collection. Providing information, connecting people, and making life convenient is definitely NOT the primary goal of whoever is big on the Internet today. It's shocking to see how much of it is only to sell you stuff or to sell your information.
And the worst is: we are even paying them to do this shit. #Marketing spending will be reflected in product prices, and with much of marketing being done in 1st world countries, a substantial amount of the price goes into this destructive industry.
I could go on with this for hours. Really sick of it.
