It's the Weekend! Rock on!

And this is for those into the art of or on stone. Or history. A close look in some early dawn sun amid the rain and mist.
Sort of magical really. Stonehenge. That stone is super-old, not to mention heavy. Ponder how it got here and set up like this.

Looking at this, as I learned about all the unique endemic life on this stone, pondered its making and precision.... and the purpose?
That remains the big mystery, debate, and argument. Many imagine and witness its precision as a sundial. I saw sacrifice rocks too.

What there is debate about now - among academics, archaeologists, historians - are who the builders were and what were they doing? I know there are solstice worshippers but I wonder if the original purpose was in fact an ode to the Sun, not to aliens. gods

On that note.... for many, it's the weekend. For those who can, enjoy!

Meine Jugend auf den Open-Air-Festivals | Unsere Geschichte | NDR Doku - YouTube

Die Anspannung ist überall zu spüren. Nach zwei Tagen Dauerregen und Windstärke 9 macht sich Ernüchterung breit. Doch dann reißt der Himmel auf, die Sonne scheint und er kommt auf die Bühne, mit 17 Stunden Verspätung: Jimi Hendrix. Gitarren-Legende und seit Woodstock 1969 die Verkörperung der Flower-Power-Bewegung. Es sollte der letzte große Festival-Auftritt vor seinem Tod werden.

Das war genau vor 50 Jahren. Das Love & Peace Festival 1970 auf der Ostseeinsel Fehmarn war Deutschlands erstes Open-Air-Konzert, es versank in Schlamm, Prügeleien und Schutt und Asche. Der Traum von Woodstock zerplatzte.

Auf einem der größten Festivals in Norddeutschland heutzutage, dem Hurricane, ist zwar das Wetter immer noch unberechenbar, doch alles während der Veranstaltung ist bis ins kleinste Detail durchorganisiert. Der Veranstalter Folkert Koopmans hat das Festival von Mal zu Mal perfektioniert. Er achtet zunehmend auf Umwelt- und Naturschutz und bietet mittlerweile sogar Luxus-Camping-Unterkünfte für anspruchsvollere Festival-Besucher an. Dazu gibt es ein Riesenrad, Bungee-Sprungturm, Supermarkt, Gourmet-Essensstände. Annehmlichkeiten wie in einem Kurzurlaub.

Die Dokumentation zeigt die Entwicklungsgeschichte der norddeutschen Open-Air-Festivals. Alte Archiv-Aufnahmen des Fehmarn-Festivals 1970 und der beiden Scheeßeler Rockfestivals 1973 und 1977 stehen dem aktuellen Hurricane-Festival gegenüber. Der Kontrast könnte nicht deutlicher werden: Denn mit chaotischen Hippie-Verhältnissen in der Provinz haben die heutigen Großveranstaltungen fast nichts mehr zu tun. Nur ein bisschen Woodstock-Gefühl kommt wieder auf, wenn junge Pop-Fans mit Blumenkränzen im Haar unbeschwert zur Gitarrenmusik tanzen.

Krass, ich wusste gar nicht das Jimix Hendrix mal auf Fehmarn gespielt hat

I was looking recently at "normal temperatures" in usually cool London, and U.K. generally. Thought I might visit, though last time I caught cold in the chilly, rainy (summer!) weather. Let's check. Wait a minute, something's going on here... Seems the site has melted.

Here is an excellent 'album version' of one of the best songs by one of the best guitarists -
having once found and shared the 'a.m. version' which fades out as the guitar and wha-wha go into high gear.
