Today I handed in a PR to #diaspora that allows a #podmin to take contact to its users.
On my pod I found it very useful to send a short message out to my user if something is going on or to clarify any report or whatever. To the podmins out there: make a review to this, if you like / dislike this feature to have on your pod.

Today I handed in a PR for the enhancement for the #podmins reports section.
Since the last announced I improved the statistics section
Any podmin can review this on GitHub:

about #Framasphere shut down
As some off you might know already framasphere is closing down in the near future.
Right now I start to wonder what will happen with the federated content of this account.
Will it still be available on the other pods or will it vanish totally?
I wonder if there is someone out there who'd like to offer something like what was done with the joindiaspora pod, taking over the handling of the framasphere pod.
Buh bye, Nazis.
#podmins keep an eye on your registrations, or shut them off for a time.

We'd like to take this opportunity to remind all #podmins that running queries directly on diaspora*s database for any reason is a bad idea and will most likely to harm to your system. Unless a member of our project team (recognizable by the role title on Discourse, as well as the little diaspora* asterisk placed on top of the profile pictures on Discourse) tells you to run a specific query for maintenance purposes, do not do it.
If you want to remove spam from your pod, download this script, fill in the correct details, and run it with bin/bundle exec ruby diaspora_spam.rb
inside your diaspora
folder. If you have further questions, we're happy to help out - just open a new thread in our Discourse's "Podmin Support" section.

10 days ago, after the pod joindiaspora.com was completely broken for three weeks, its podmin wrote this post. I usually keep tabs with still unanswered questions open for a while, so I can ping again. Interestingly, when I wanted to check that post for updates, that post didn't exist anymore. It was deleted by the podmin.
Under the post I asked jd's podmin how he plans to prevent similar issues in the future. I commented that obviously asking for help within feneas didn't help as nobody responded to that question for 3 months.
Lukas then responded by calling me a liar, because somebody did indeed respond! And anyway, this was the first time ever that it took him so long to respond or solve such issues!
And .. wtf?
He was right, he got one response, but that response only added more questions, it was no response to the actual question looking for someone to help maintain the pod.
And I have no idea how on earth he could just state that similar issues never took him so long to respond to or resolve. I mean, just scroll #joindiaspora for a while! Joindiaspora completely looses federation almost every three weeks ("JD's a lonely island again", "Finally seeing other pods' content again after x weeks", etc). It constantly gives 502 or 504 errors to its users when trying to publish posts or uploading photos. Stream isn't loading for weeks. At times where it does actually work, it's mostly so slow that one can barely use it.
Users do talk about it. Users send posts with complaints. Users mention the podmin account and the podmin's personal account. And he usually simply ignores them, for weeks. His reaction this time was no exception, but his usual reaction. See screenshots.
Many people already left joindiaspora, because it's so broken. Other users desperately wait for the account migration tool, so that they can finally leave this broken pod.
If you don't ever see these posts: What kind of parallel universe are you living in?
So let me ask this again:
How do you plan to prevent such issues in the future? How do you plan to solve the issue of you being the only person with access to the pod/server - the only person who can fix problems?
Deleting your posts whenever someone in the comments asks about the future of your pod won't make JD's problems disappear.

PostgreSQL is faster than MariaDB / MySQL although it uses a bit more memory.
The current diaspora* code base could be improved to reach better performance. Some queries could be optimized, but it's harder to do it with two database engines maintained at the same time. So I'm wondering what would be the impact on the community if diaspora* stops supporting MySQL. Of course, this would come with a detailed migration guide and plenty of time to upgrade, with full support of the community. Remember: this is just a poll to know your opinion, no decision has been taken at the moment.

Pssssttt #podmins I am going to start looking at your main page in the body tags for content to help determine the language used on your pod. If your splash page is in English but you are not an English pod maybe change? If you have no splash maybe add some content in the language of your pod?
Would be nice to use the HTML tag, unfortunately they all show en even if your a pod of another language.
Thanks! Will help new users find a pod that's the best fit just a hair better!
