Transparency Org Releases Alleged Leak of Russian Censorship Agency | Vice

Transparency organization Distributed Denial of Secrets has released what it says is 800GB of data from a section of Roskomnadzor, the Russian government body responsible for censorship in the country.
On Distributed Denial of Secrets’ website, the organization describes the data as coming from a hack and says that Anonymous claimed responsibility. Roskomnadzor is the agency that has in recent days announced a block of Facebook and other websites in the country as the war in Ukraine intensifies.

As military conflict has mounted between Ukraine and Russia, so have fears of unprecedented cyberwar.
Experts are monitoring both countries closely, fearing a volatile crisis involving one of the world’s leading hacking super powers could lead to a huge conflict playing out online – one that could outlast the physical battles.

BBC to resume English language reporting in Russia | BBC | The Guardian

The BBC is to resume English language reporting in Russia after it had temporarily suspended its coverage to assess the implications of the country’s new media law.
It paused the work of its news reporters and support staff in Russia on Friday after legislation was passed making it a criminal offence to spread “fake” or “false” news about the Kremlin’s war in Ukraine.
The BBC said it had “considered the implications” of the law and that after “careful deliberation” it would continue English language reporting from Tuesday evening.

Have they thought about what could happen to their reporters in Russia?

“We will tell this crucial part of the story independently and impartially, adhering to the BBC’s strict editorial standards. The safety of our staff in Russia remains our No 1 priority.”

That'll be a 'no' then.

How the tech community has rallied to Ukraine’s cyber-defence | Joyce Hakmeh and Esther Naylor | The Guardian

As the conflict in Ukraine escalates, expert cyber-watchers have been speculating about the kind of cyber-attacks that Russia might conduct. Will the Kremlin turn off Ukraine’s power grid, dismantle Ukraine’s transport system, cut off the water supply or target the health system? Or would cybercriminals operating from Russia, who could act as proxies for the Russian regime, conduct these activities?

Ukraine invasion: False claims the war is a hoax go viral | BBC News

Nearly two weeks after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the flow of false or misleading information about the war hasn't let up and now there are some outlandish theories being shared online.
Some have begun to circulate claims the war is a hoax, a media fabrication, or has been exaggerated by the West in terms of its scale.
We've examined some of them.

They're even reusing some of the same lies from the Covid crisis.

The view of an FSB insider on the Russian war in Ukraine

If this is genuine, it's a devastating indictment by an FSB insider of just how bad things are, and will continue to be, for Russia. Amongst many other things, it mentions a "localized nuclear strike", which I'd previously thought about and assumed might involve a single weapon - horrible beyond belief, but survivable by the majority of the population. From what he says about the 'big red button', a single nuclear weapon might be the worse-case scenario but probably won't happen at all.

I'm not in a position to verify anything in this thread, and since I don't have a Facebook account, I can neither view nor verify the version on Facebook, linked to from the last post in the thread. For all I know, it could be total misinformation.

I haven't had time to go down my D* feed for today, so it's possible that someone else has posted about this. If anyone else knows anything, please add a comment.

1. The FSB is the Russian intelligence service, successor to the KGB.)

How NATO Pilots Could Help Defend Ukraine | Time

This past weekend, as negotiations around aircraft began, President Zelensky announced the formation of an International Brigade to fight in Ukraine. This program, which allows foreigners with military experience to enlist in Ukraine’s Territorial Defense Forces, is a wise move. However, NATO member nations should expand that effort. They should help Zelensky take it one step further by working with his defense ministry to create a program within their respective air forces that would grant pilots from NATO countries leaves of absence to fly in Ukraine.

People of colour fleeing Ukraine attacked by Polish nationalists | Ukraine | The Guardian

Police in Poland have warned that fake reports of violent crimes being committed by people fleeing Ukraine are circulating on social media after Polish nationalists attacked and abused groups of African, south Asian and Middle Eastern people who had crossed the border last night.
Attackers dressed in black sought out groups of non-white refugees, mainly students who had just arrived in Poland at Przemyśl train station from cities in Ukraine after the Russian invasion. According to the police, three Indians were beaten up by a group of five men, leaving one of them hospitalised.

Don’t call them nationalists. They’re racists. They belong in prison.

Belarus military has received assistance from the UK a dozen times in past five years | Declassified UK
