"In a parliamentary week that has so far involved a pitched battle over how many pages the Uluru Statement is, a bold Coalition stand against cheaper drugs and a fresh bingle over that suburban barbecue-stopper, the legality of Israeli settlements, it is entirely fitting that the session should conclude with the unveiling of a Kevin Rudd official portrait so auto-parodic that no-one could stay grumpy.

More on the other stuff in a minute, but honestly … this portrait."

"..Different news outlets had different reads. News.com.au reported that the former PM was shown "at his kitchen table". The Sky News live broadcast broke the news that this was "the first official portrait to include a family pet … Mr Rudd's dog Abby". (Abby, a Golden Retriever who died three years ago, was understandably unavailable for comment.)" continuing their astonishing run of being wrong about every single thing! XD
Kevin's portrait receives a good cackle from Annabel & Brett (ABC)

Grand Imperial Vizier, Clover Moore, gets an AO OK!

"..The work to which we have set ourselves is the liberating of the imagination, the harnessing of imagination to humankind's deepest sense of creativity." Bene Gesserit Credo

"Moore became involved in a local resident action group and decided to run for Council in 1980 when she and other members of the group met, after three years of attempts, with the Mayor, Bill Hartup, regarding a local park which Hartup had demanded to have its grass replaced with asphalt (to aid street-sweepers in seeing broken glass), surrounded by barbed wire (to keep out the drunks at night), and to have its lone tree removed (a nuisance)" Wikipedia. dafuck, tis true.

a pretty good line up for awards, i reckon.

a Call to Cards, my fellow Australians!

two more sleeps until Dig Deep 4 the Bilbies’ Giving Day!
from the organisers:
"So, what exactly is the ‘Dig Deep 4 the Bilbies’ Giving Day?
- It is a special 24-hour event where all donations raised on the day will help us tremendously with the significant investment needed to maintain our breeding facility and keep our wild living bilbies safe for future generations to enjoy.

What makes ‘Dig Deep 4 the Bilbies’ so special?
- Funds donated on Wednesday will be matched by some very generous ‘Big Diggers’. This means that if you donate $50, Save the Bilby Fund will get $100. $100 becomes $200, $250 becomes $500 and so on.

Why is this so important?
- With Australia’s appalling track record in species loss, we know that we cannot rely on anyone else. It will take all of us Australians working together. Which is why your support is needed - to fund essential land management and feral threats, as well as food and veterinary costs for our breeding facility. Not to mention we now need to protect the growing number of bilbies living both within and outside our fenced area at Currawinya.

Your support this Wednesday is a big step towards saving the bilby.
So please put a reminder in your diary for this Wednesday 23 March.
Let’s get this done together, dig deep and give the bilby the best chance to dig again across Australia! . sneak peek here - https://bit.ly/3InhE9Y

Woolies are selling Easter Bilbies (yesss, God's lad felt much better in the morning and came back as a Bilby, rather than vermin ok? it's chocolate. settle.). A whopping 20 cents (TA-WENTY CENTS!) from each sale of an appropriately packaged chocolate bilby (Darrell Lea) will go toward Bilby saving. kewl.
