#aphids

Never thought having aphids problems in December!

My Dill plants outside stopped growing and I was kind of surprised, so after looking closer, I found almost all of them full of aphids sucking them dry.

I honestly thought my big problems were gone when the nights are cooler, but I was wrong. Time to spray with soapy water and been oil mix and find a way to get money to buy some more Neem oil as my bottle is almost empty so is my bank account.

One of my #Jalapeno peppers is about 90cm tall.

Remember it was full of #aphids and was afraid it would die.
Cleaned it up and trimmed it to the bare minimum and been feeding it organic #fertilizer and 1L of water every day.

It is full of #flowers and already picked about 20 peppers from if. It is my most successful plant in a long time. Specially since it got a new pot filled with old soil mixed with #vermiculite and compost.

Have a problem and a dilemma.

This is my Kratky Hydroponic pepper plants.

It has been growing so well in the past 6 weeks and has plenty of peppers and flowers.

But, the problem is that the 5L container is almost empty and I had problem with refilling #Kratky units before and really really don't want to harm this beautiful plant.

I was thinking about moving it into a 20L bucket, and trim the roots before putting it into althe 2/3rd filled bucket. But I don't want to show k it either.

The other problem is that it's covered with #aphids. Forgot to spray it with soapy water in the past few days and it's now have 1000 of those little buggers sucking the juice out of my lovely plant.

I have to make the decision today.

Sad reality of organic gardening!

Since I'm refusing to use any chemicals to fight the bugs my lovely neighbor is feeding and sending to me on a daily basis, I have to fight them almost every day.

This sad little guy is what is left of one of my Chilli peppers who survived the soil gnats.

I cut off all the infected leaves, removed all the bugs, washed it off with soapy water and hoping that the nature takes it's magic and bring it back to life.

In the mean time, all I can to do is to focus on those plants that are not as miserable as this one.

This is a #HouseSparrow which I think lives in the loft of my own house.

Portrait of a house sparrow

I've often seen these #birds feeding off something from the underside of #rose #leaves and long suspected that they were feeding off #aphids but I used to think that they only eat #seeds.

House sparrow feeding on something

Here's confirmation that it is indeed feeding on #greenfly. If you've ever watched the film #ABugsLife then you can appreciate how terrifying these #birds would be to tiny #insects.
