Das waren die AnfĂ€nge vor eineinhalb Jahren. Da gab es noch ein "uns". Im FrĂŒhjahr ist die Partnerschaft zerbrochen. đŸ„ș Nach ein paar sehr unsicheren Monaten steht fest: Es geht weiter. Mit mir als einziger Person und in kleinerem Rahmen. Immerhin. 😊 Aber mein Traum von einem #Vogel- und #Insektenparadies, das auch als #Nutzgarten dienen kann, wird doch Wirklichkeit. Und das in #Lauterbach. Ein aus tiefstem Herzen kommendes Dankeschön an #faltercomix und meinen "kleinen" Bruder. Auf ein Neues!

Those were the beginnings a year and a half ago. There was still an ‘us’. The partnership broke up in spring. đŸ„ș After a few very uncertain months, one thing is certain: we will continue. With me as the only person and on a smaller scale. After all. 😊 But my dream of a #bird and #insect #paradise, which can also serve as a #utilitygarden, is becoming a reality after all. Backpack-wearing dogs enlisted to #rewild urban nature reserve in Lewes

Backpack-wearing dogs are being enlisted to “act like wolves” to help rewild an urban nature reserve in the East Sussex town of Lewes.

Before wolves were persecuted to extinction in the UK in about 1760, they were known to roam large areas, typically covering 12 miles (20km) or more each night.

In doing so, wolves would inadvertently pick up wildflower and grass seeds in their fur, dispersing them many miles away and helping establish new colonies of plants, which is vital for biodiversity and for ecosystems to thrive.

So I'm gearing up for spring & while I'm getting myself organized I thought I'd share my seed storage system.Everyone's got their own way of doing it of course, but the plastic shoeboxes have worked really well for me. 4 in total (2 veg, beans & flowers/herbs). Everything in paper envelopes (the original or ones I fold myself) then in plastic ziploc bags.

I get really great longevity & germination rates often years past the averages. I honestly believe it's the ziploc bags keeping moisture out - but that's just my opinion.

Spreadsheet to keep track of it all. Quick & easy way to see what I have/need. I try to be good about using older seeds first - but I'm a lazy gardener (thus the stockpile lol).

I also keep sticky notes on each seed packet w last date planted & germination rate bc I've never been good about keeping an actual journal. I'm not *that* organized. 😂

Anyway. Just thought I'd share. I'd love to see how everyone else does it!

A clear plastic shoebox as seen from above, showing bundles of seed packets separated by labeled dividers.</p><p>The seeds are arranged alphabetically and grouped by vegetable. Each bundle is stored in either a snack-sized or sandwich ziploc bag. The dividers are plain white index cards that have been trimmed to fit so that they stick up above the packets and are easily visible, but are short enough that they don't get squashed by the lid.</p><p>I have 4 seed bins in total. They stack neatly out of the way in a closet that stays cool.

Each row contains the following additional information: variety, whether it is an heirloom or hybrid, general description, days to germination, source, date, and disease resistance.

I don't eat or even like Kale but when my plants bolted and grew some flowers, I kept them to save the seeds!

I honestly have no idea if I ever going to use them, but my stuburn mindset forced me to separate them and going to save them! Maybe I find someone who is interested in organic kale and can do a seed exchange with them!

Saving seeds is such a great and easy idea.

These are the seeds from two radishes I let grow old until they bloomed. Each had 3-4 bunch of flowers that were pretty and attracted pollinators.

When the plants finally died, I let them dry out and picked up the flowers and got these seeds.

It's almost 10 times the amount one gets when buying 1€ packs of organic seeds.

Going to put them in paper paper towels and then in envelops to keep them for a long time. But some will be used in the little new hydroponic experiment I started to see if I can create a mini sandponics system with 12,5cm PVC pipes so filled with perlites and vermiculite.
