I was told by a German former "chemistry and biology" teacher that compost is not fertilizer.
He is the living proof of stupid and educated are totally different things!
I never thought facing this level of stupidity outside Facebook.

Had a 1m pipe I was planning to use for hydroponics that I gave up and decided to try a lazy man's compost solution.
Made a lot of holes in the first 20cm of it and pushed it into a pot I used to have a tomato plant in. Placed some mints around it and put a small pot on top to work as the cover.
Whenever I have some #vegetables left over, I put them in the pipe and I'm expecting to have good compost in it by the summer as the worms in the pot can go in an out of the holes, eating the vegetable and turn it to fertilizer.
At the same time, I am going to have unlimited minteto have for tea or salad.
I may cover and paint the pipe, or emayeb cover ot with some wood I saved from orange boxes.

I know it doesn't look good but it's like magic for tomatoes and peppers.
I used to make this mix of bandana peels, tea leaves (used), potato peels, some orange peels and baking soda.
I put it into my quick mixer with some water and mix it to a moosh. I then mix it with some old soil from last and put it in a 1tL paint bucket, i add a layer of old soil over it (same amount as the mixed quantity).
I keep doing this until the pot is full then leave it on the balcony to compost.
By end of February or early March it will be ready to be used.
I use 1 dL of this mix 1dL of old plant soil. Mix them well and use it as the maine soil for tomatoes, peppers and other vegetables that I grow in containers and sacks.
It's a great way of quick #composting and cutting the amount of #garbage I produce.

It cuts vegetables so quickly and easily, making it super easy to add leafy vegetables to any dish.
It is a bit hard to clean up and some vegetables get stock in between the blades but it's a standard tool when I cook and even when I prune leaves of tomatoes and other plants before adding them to the compost. Cutting them in small strips speeds up composting by a factor 2 or 3.

Great episode that manages to include, somehow: Elon Musk, human composting and butterflies.

Yesterday I spent almost all day going to the place where the lady who was selling this composter works.
Not having a car is a drag when living here is you want to visit any place that is not on the coast.
But can't complain, it was free with my annual buss card.
So i got the unit home, now i have to look for a place to buy redg wriggle worms.
There are a few places who sell them but they charge so much for shipping (understandable). I posted a note info the french red wriggle worms group on Facebook to see if there is anyone around here who can sell some 20-30 worms for me to start my new adventure.
This will take care of my organic garbage, produce some great compost and if I do it right, give me some worm caat fertilizer to use in my non hydroponic plants on the balcony.

Excited. Getting closer to become fully independent with my little balcony farming project!
I love buying things second hand!
