California Legislature Passes Leaded Avgas Ban

California is a governor's signature away from banning leaded aviation gasoline statewide. Politico Pro is reporting the California state Senate on Thursday passed bill that would outlaw the fuel starting in 2031. California is the first state to pass a leaded fuel ban. Several other states have similar legislation moving through their legislatures.

About time!!!

Airlines Sue Transportation Department Over ‘Junk Fee’ Ban

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg fired back on social media, “We just issued a rule requiring airlines to inform you, before you buy a ticket, of fees they will charge you. Now the airline lobby is suing us, saying that if you have the right to that information it will ‘confuse’ you. For once, I am speechless.”

Budapest to Lyon: Why I chose to take a night train with my 6 year-old son instead of a flight

It was my six-year-old son who figured out a way to make that happen. Engrossed in a picture book about trains, he came across one that depicted a family sleeping peacefully in a couchette.

I decided it was time to give night trains a go.

Diversity Naysayers Make Labor Crisis Worse

A good article by Russ Niles on #AVweb. The story deals with #aviation, but is widely applicable and well argued.

One of the most interesting, frustrating, entertaining and occasionally frightening tasks of the modern-day editor is monitoring the comments on the stories we run. Most outlets have disabled comments because it’s just too much damn work to filter out the mean, hateful and irrelevant missives that inevitably appear no matter what the topic. It must be all Trump’s fault. Or wait, maybe it’s Biden’s.

First Flight of the Samson Switchblade

A non-folding wing prototype of this flying car design was flown on 9 November 2023 after 14 years of development. That must have eaten a lot of venture capital! The company claims 2,300 customer orders for these, but no idea when an actual production prototype with the real folding wings will fly or what the price will be.

You will need a diver's licence and a pilots licence to operate this.

#Flying #cars have fascinated film-buffs, science geeks and motorsport enthusiasts for many years now. Many have imagined a car that can drive on the roads as well as fly in the sky. It seems that a #flying-car, as shown in sci-fi films, is set to ply on the roads sooner rather than later. A fully functional flying car has received legal approval to fly in the US. This flying car, known as Model A, has been developed by US-based Alef Aeronautics.

First time flying car okayed in US
The company recently announced that it has received the Special Airworthiness Certification from US government’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This is a historic milestone as it marks the first time a flying #car has been certified in the US.

Alef Aeronautics have opened up about their special vehicle via an official statement. “The FAA is actively working on its policies for electrical vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) vehicles, as well as governing interactions between eVTOLs and ground infrastructure. Alef's Special Airworthiness Certificate, therefore, limits the locations and purpose for which Alef is permitted to fly," Alef Aeronautics said in a statement.
