Risky? Or Confident?

Albeit smaller, I haven't seen a #Russian salient like the one under Ocheretyne, since the early days around Kyiv.
Are the Russians being risky, as it could be cut off?
Or are the Russians just very confident?

Ukraine needs 25 Patriot air defense systems to cover the country

"I will not tell you how many #Patriot systems we have. I can say that to cover Ukraine completely in the future, it is preferable to have 25 Patriot systems, with 6-8 batteries each," Zelensky said.

"Ukraine knows for sure how much it needs to repel the #Russian Federation's attacks," he said.

Anti-Kremlin militias' raid thwarts Russia's plans for potential new attack

The recent incursion into Russia by Russian #anti-Kremlin #militias made Moscow "change plans" on a possible new attack in Ukraine's northern sector.

Russian nationalist Denis Kapustin, the commander of the #Russian Volunteer Corps, said at a press conference on March 21 that the militias "stabilized the front" and "eased the pressure of Russian troops in certain areas."

Alexei Baranovsky, the Freedom of Russia Legion volunteer, claimed that anti-Kremlin forces had received intelligence about Russia's alleged plans to advance further into Kharkiv Oblast.

"The clashes (on Russia's territory) forced Russia to deploy additional reserves and withdraw its troops from their positions (in Ukraine) to relocate them to Belgorod Oblast," Yusov said.

Ukraine's forces 'stabilize situation' in the east

After the capture of #Avdiivka on Feb. 17 and several other settlements shortly after, #Russian forces were concentrating their main efforts on making a breakthrough near the fallen town in #Donetsk Oblast, Syrskyi reported last week. Avdiivka fell as Ukraine was facing an ongoing ammunition shortage.

In a phone call with Thierry Burkhard, France's army chief, Syrskyi said he had spoken about the current situation on the battlefield and thanked Paris for the support.

Russia's war in Ukraine has been knocking on your door, too

Talking about Russia's war against Ukraine, we are not talking about a war between two states. It's is a war between two systems

Two years on, we know if Russia succeeds, we will find ourselves in a world that will be dangerous for everyone without exception

Samuel Huntington predicted that new global conflicts would arise between different civilizations.

Thousands of Ukrainian cities are being shelled not only by #Russian missiles but also by #Iranian drones & ballistic missiles in addition to #NorthKorean artillery shells & missiles.

#China is helping Russia circumvent sanctions and import technologies critical to warfare. North Korea sent Russia more than a million artillery shells. Syria votes at the UN General Assembly in support of Russia.

We are dealing with the formation of an entire authoritarian bloc. As much as Russia, Iran, China, Syria, and North Korea are "different civilizations", according to Huntington's views, they pose a crucial common feature.

The existence of the free world always threatens dictatorships with the loss of power. That's because human beings inherently have a desire for freedom.

Therefore, when we talk about Russia's war against Ukraine, we are not talking about a war between two states. This is a war between two systems — authoritarianism and democracy.

Russian citizens attending Navalny vigils reportedly given draft summonses

At least six Russians arrested while attending makeshift memorials to the late opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who died in prison in Russia on Feb. 16, were given military draft notices upon their release from custody, local Russian media reported on Feb. 21.

Russian authorities have reportedly arrested hundreds of people for laying flowers at memorials to Navalny or otherwise publicly mourning his death.

Leaders around the world condemned Russia for #Navalny's death and blamed Russian President Vladimir Putin for what has been consistently characterized as a murder.

Don't think that Russian hybrid ops in Estonia end with the suspects currently detained

The Internal Security Service (ISS), known in #Estonian as the #Kapo, announced Tuesday that, based on information amassed in the course of criminal proceedings, Russia's security services have been coordinating a hybrid operation against Estonia's security.

This operation includes the activities carried out by those suspects currently detained.

While smashing the windows of a family car is hardly a sophisticated action, recruiting willing volunteers inside Estonia has not proven difficult for the #FSB and/or other Russian security organs.

Speaking to ETV current affairs show "Ringvaade," Läänemets said that the intention on the part of Russia's security services is to sow fear and discord, both in Estonia and elsewhere.

"This is the goal of the #Russian secret services and also that of Russia as a whole: To destabilize Estonian society and sow fear.

"Russia has dedicated units to carry out such operations. Estonia is not the only place where this has happened. It happens in the other Baltic states, and elsewhere ", the minister went on.

I have been seeing more and more articles and thoughts like this about needing to increase #birthrates. This is from RT.com but its certainly not unique to #Russian nationalism. Are all of these "fears" related to a general increase in #nationalism world-wide? I don't recall the last time I saw anyone upset about #OverPopulation but the global population is still increasing at rates that are higher than I was taught in #publicSchool where #sustainable.@realcaseyrollins ✝️

January 27, 1944

80 years ago, on January 27, 1944, #Leningrad was completely liberated from the Nazi blockade. The almost 900-day siege of the city on the Neva River was a time of the heaviest trials, unparalleled courage and fortitude.

Today we honor the heroes who defended the city and fought for the freedom of the Fatherland. We congratulate veterans, residents of the Siege of Leningrad, distinguished colleagues and all Petersburgers on our memorable day.

Happy holiday and Victory to all!

Today is the Centennial Celebration of Lenin's Death (Russian Tsar, not John)

Alexander Garden, Moscow

Inspired by hearing this from someone recently emigrated from Russia, noting this day being historical, and sharing a post applauding (Murdoch's) _Wall Street Journal_f or mentioning it, but adding that it missed a bit of history, and/or geography,

David Satter posted on January 19. So where did the irreparable happen? Everyone knows - in Gorky (Leninsky). But David Satter demonstrates false erudition - he clarifies: "The first leader of the Soviet Union died on Jan. 21, 1924, in Gorki, Russia (now called Nizhny Novgorod), after repeated strokes."

So, in the spirit of the day, and a nod to #history... and to the one who made it possible for me to take a few relevant photos.

Спасибо / Thank you. I was lucky to have a chance to see Moscow in pleasant times, Sochi Olympics, good times. (2014!) 10 yrs.

The title link leads to my Lenin page of #photography .

But for anyone who "comes here for the music", OK, here goes, in sync with today, but from the other Lennon, John.

Back in the USSR 🎶

I do hope the good people I celebrated with then, but who are suffering now, do find sunshine again, soon.
