#sparrows

It's a hot late #spring day and I was sitting the conservatory as #birds were flitting around the back #garden. Here's a verdant scene of the #flowering #potato #plants I took while waiting with a #telephoto lens for any #sparrows to show up.

One #HouseSparrow did visit the #birdfeeder and I got this nice profile. It almost looks like it's holding a pose for me.

Seconds later, it flew right up to within 3-4 m under the shade of a #rose #bush no doubt looking for aphids and I caught this rather contrasting, scary image of the same #bird as it might look to one of its tiny victims.

I got a new #bird feeder recently and this one (right) is 100% #squirrel proof, in fact it is called the "Squiirel Buster Classic". If they jump on it their weight closes it and they get nothing, The house #sparrows, #chickadees and white breasted #nuthatches love it! The #cardinals don't seem to have figured it out yet, however. I put the old feeder up in a new spot (left) where the squirrels can easily get at it so they don't go hungry, but so far the sparrows have been working on emptying it instead, as can be seen in the photo.

At lunchtime, there was plenty of #sunshine and #birds were visiting the #garden in steady waves.

#Sparrows and other smaller birds use the #BirdFeeder, sometimes occupying several of the perches simultaneously. But this one was solitary.

#Pigeons feed off the ground and are often seen at the base of the bird feeder. However, this one was walking along the garden #fence.

Finally, here are the same #roses I photographed a few days ago except that this time they are in direct #sunlight rather than under grey skies.

#Birds naturally tend to move rapidly around the area and so it is sometimes difficult to be able to record the various species passing by. I often see #starlings around but not often in the #garden. In this first #photograph, you can see three of them sharing a fence with two #sparrows and a mystery bird. These #pictures span no more than about three minutes of time.

Here's more detail of the bird whose species I don't know along with its mate. Can anybody help identify it?

A minute later this #Jay arrived and because it's a predator, the other birds soon vacated the area but you could hear them sounding alarms to others. You can see that its #feathers are ruffled and so I think it has recently been in some sort of altercation.
