Crypto is hard. Certificate validation can be too. GDATA says the German Coronavirus Warning App (CWA), which got added a digital certificate wallet function to recently, lacks any validation.

The researchers were able to add Robert Koch's certificate (*1843) to the app - the only criterion the app checks is that two weeks since the 2nd shot have passed. Oh, a century? Never mind, here you go. >_<

To be fair, the recommended way is using the official CovPass App, which does the self-evident check.

Why? Because RPM had never properly checked revoked certificate key handling. Specifically, as Linux and lead RPM developer Panu Matilainen explained: "Revocation is one of the many unimplemented things in rpm's #OpenPGP support. In other words, you're not seeing a bug as such; it's just not implemented at all, much like expiration is not."

This is a bad #security #vulnerability but with open source you have the chance to find it and better late than never. You can't say this often enough: "Open source can increase your security but someone with experience has to do a #codereview. If no one checked the code then everything is possible :(

As a software engineer and was a network admin. I know how f*cking crazy the GFW is. It’s like a all seeing eye of God but with a heart of a devil. Avoiding the #GFW is virtually impossible - once I have to do it for a contract to setup service in a Chinese VPS. Every trick in the book fails, SSH reverse tunnel, Tor w/ obsf4, TCP over DNS. The GFW even messes with your TLS #certificate. Heck, is the only thing it can’t see through is a OTP? Not mentioning all the DNS poisoning happening in China (DNSSEC doesn’t work either). And all the censorship on the Chinese website. They suck.

Yeah, the NSA might be also doing the same thing. And I dislike them for that. But at least as dumb as Trump is - he is not as crazy as Xi is.

I don’t live in China but close enough to be very scared.
