These #companies have #cut thousands of #jobs while raking in #billions, and #lobbying for #deregulation. There's no conspiracy, other than deadly #corporate #greed.

The #train #derailment and subsequent #chemical #explosion in East #Palestine, #Ohio is being described by many as “devastating” and potentially “America’s #Chernobyl.” Mind you, not by Norfolk Southern, the rail company responsible or the Biden administration, which took a full ten days before making even a statement about the catastrophe. But a #catastrophe it appears to be nevertheless, and in 21st century America it’s likely that the powerful interests responsible won’t be held accountable while the poorer victims will bear the brunt. Guest host Aaron Maté and Americans’ Comedian Kurt Metzger discuss Norfolk Souther’s offer of $25,000 as compensation for the people of East Palestine, which amounts to roughly $5 per resident.

Back in November 2018 there was a big derailment in the North West of Western Australia when one of BHP's iron ore trains ran away on their private track. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) has just released their preliminary report. I work for the company that supplies the Train Control System which is the system that controls and monitors the railway / railroad infrastructure not the system the controls the locomotives so we a completely out of the picture for this. The lead locomotive was named after a BHP employee we have frequent dealings with. That locomotive was involved with the heaviest train run on BHP tracks and now also the fastest train on BHP tracks. Unfortunately it was destroyed in the derailment and the nameplate was too mangled to be salvageable. The weight of the train was 42,500 tonnes which is up around the weight of a largish WWII battleship and at 144 kilometres per hour the kinetic energy at the time of the crash was 68,000 Mega Joules which is about 16 tons of TNT equivalent. Bang!
