One of the best items I purchased many years ago was this 8 outlet power strip.

It has a master socket with current sensing to control the rest of the sockets.

I used to use it with my desktop to turn off all the peripherals when the computer was off.

Adjusted the current level to detect the IKEA LED grow light with an analog timer to control all the other leds, water and airpumps in the kitchen corner I use as my kitchen garden.

It saved me 5 timers as well as small current used by each unit when they are in sleep mode. It's not much, but it helps in the long run.

The largest coronal mass ejection just happened, but it was on the opposite side of the sun, and didn't hit Earth, so we got lucky. Had it hit us, it might have been another "Carrington Event". The Carrington Event happened in 1859 and knocked out and even caused sparks and fires in telegraph stations. Back in 1859, there wasn't much in the form of electrical wiring -- it was mostly telegraph wires. The world is very different today.

Wow! Sun just produced a Carrington like event, but we got super lucky - Anton Petrov

Scientists from Australia have discovered an enzyme that converts air into energy. That's according to a new paper published in the journal Science.

The enzyme uses low amounts of hydrogen in the atmosphere to make an electric current. This discovery, say the scientists, opens up the possibility of creating devices that generate energy from thin air.

Looking at the data for #electricity demand for the #UK over a period of months, it seems like it rarely dips below 30 GW or much above 40 GW. With the introduction of large numbers of #ElectricVehicles, I expect that demand to rise significantly but if car batteries are also used partly for domestic use then it may smooth out peak demand out. More #WindFarms and other sustainable sources will needed as well as #NuclearPower for the base load.

Panko (パン粉) is a type of flaky bread crumbs used in Japanese cuisine as a crunchy coating for fried foods, such as tonkatsu. Panko is made from bread baked by electrical current, which yields a bread without a crust, and then grinding the bread to create fine slivers of crumb. It has a crisper, airier texture than most types of breading found in Western cuisine and maintains its texture baked or deep fried, resulting in a lighter coating.

Finally feeling the cold, had to close all the windows in the apartment!

Love living in the south, the guys bellow and above me have cranked up their heat so much, my apartment getting free heat from the floor and the ceiling.

I don't think I need to have a space heater at all.

The birds are warm and cozy with the heat mat I put on the side of their cage, and 2 of them sat on top of my hydroponic unit and enjoyed the sun for a while.

How #Kenya Became the #World’s #Geothermal Powerhouse

Of all #renewables, geothermal #energy is especially useful for #industrialization, a goal shared by countries across #Africa. For one, unlike sources such as wind and solar, it provides a reliable stream of power critical to energy-intensive industrial processes. Moreover, geothermal need not be converted to #electricity at all: Direct applications — where geothermal steam itself is used — abound.
