Ukrainian military intelligence denies involvement in drone explosion at #Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant

"The aggressor state once again endangers the nuclear facility," Yusov said. "Russian strikes, in particular false flag strikes, on the territory of the Ukrainian #nuclear power plant, as well as the deployment of troops and weapons there and mining of ZNPP facilities, have long been a well-known and constant criminal practice."

"Russia should withdraw troops from all #ZNPP facilities, only this will allow to restore compliance with all necessary international norms and control over an important nuclear energy facility."

"South Korea's HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering plans to develop a small modular reactor for use in shipping in cooperation with the UK's Core Power and the USA's Southern Company and TerraPower."

We know there are nuclear-powered submarines and aircraft carriers. How you you all feel about nuclear powered container ships?

"The shipping industry consumes some 350 million tonnes of fossil fuel annually and accounts for about 3% of total worldwide carbon emissions. In July last year, the shipping industry, via the International Maritime Organization, approved new targets for greenhouse gas emission reductions, aiming to reach net-zero emissions by or around 2050."

"There is no net-zero without nuclear."

"In January this year, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Lloyd's Register, Zodiac Maritime, Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering and Kepco Engineering & Construction for the development of nuclear-propelled ship designs, including bulk carriers and container ships."

"The reactor to be jointly developed centres around TerraPower's Molten Chloride Fast Reactor design. The technology uses molten chloride salt as both reactor coolant and fuel, allowing for so-called fast spectrum operation which the company says makes the fission reaction more efficient. It operates at higher temperatures than conventional reactors, generating electricity more efficiently, and also offers potential for process heat applications and thermal storage. An iteration of the Molten Chloride Fast Reactor -- known as the m-MSR -- intended for marine use is being developed by TerraPower."

Sorry, but I never thought they were a "silver bullet" no matter how much happy talk was put behind it, and that's because I was in Illinois when the Clinton IL nuke plant went online and there were always cost over-runs of gargantuan proportions. Always looks good on paper but shitty IRL.

What a disappointment Small Nuclear Reactors have turned out to be. They're not that small, or cheap or being produced and deployed at the rate and speed they were supposed to be.Not a technology we can rely on to help us react to climate change in a meaningful way.

British nuclear missile test fails and crashes into sea

A recent Royal Navy test of the missile that carries Britain's nuclear deterrent failed within seconds, it has emerged, raising new questions about the deterrent's viability at a time of elevated #nuclear tensions.

First revealed by the Sun newspaper, the US-manufactured #Trident missile was launched from the #submarine HMS #Vanguard off the east coast of the US.

However, instead of flying the planned thousands of miles before coming down in the southern Atlantic Ocean, it crashed into the sea near the launch site.

So, the #UK's #Trident missile test fired from a Royal Navy #submarine failed, for the second time in a row. These missiles, which can carry #nuclear war heads, are key to the UK's supposed nuclear deterrent ability.

I enjoyed hearing the military man on the radio this morning, explaining how failing to launch these #phallic symbols happens to everyone. OK, he didn't say phallic. But he might as well have.

Dr. #ReinerFullmich interviews #Dr. Calin #Georgescu who is a true " #Mr. #Global" insider. Georgescu had high positions in both the #Club-of-Rome and the #UnitedNations before discovering something so horrific he had to get out.

He says the #WEF / Davos crowd = the oligarch system.

#Quote "The #world oligarch system has the control"
Quote "The UN is the bridge for the #Oligarch #system to run the world"

Source: https://youtube.com/watch?v=ctwNUYShvL0

This guy really lays it all out here, I am shocked that this #interview is still available.

#Now here is #why
Georgescu is asked what made him finally leave the group.

He mentions that while working for the #UN in the #MarshalIslands they discovered a an #isolated #tribe of people whose average #age was 180-200 years old.

When he got back to #Geneva to write his report he had opposition and his press conference was canceled. He never mentions the year that this occurred, he does say that in #1960 the United States #completely #destroyed the #area where this tribe was found via " #nuclear testing"

I'm trying to better understand the timeline of all of this, and would like to find any corroborating information especially documentation that shows the UN was in the #Marshall-islands in the late 1950's.

Is Congress Really Going to Abandon Ukraine Now? - The Atlantic

Tens of millions of other people—Poles, Germans, Romanians, Finns, Estonians, Swedes, Slovaks, Lithuanians, Czechs, Latvians, Norwegians—are also in range of Russian conventional missiles, whether launched from Belarus, Russian-controlled parts of Ukraine, or Russia itself. Anyone in Europe could also be hit by Russian nuclear weapons, of course, as Russian television propagandists so frequently like to remind us.

Dmitri Medvedev, a former Russian president, in recent months has:

  • Threatened Poland with the loss of its statehood
  • Threatened Sweden and Finland with nuclear and hypersonic missiles
  • Said the Baltic states belong to Russia anyway.

IAEA chief: Previously removed mines at Zaporizhzhia power plant 'back in place'

The mines which were previously identified by the IAEA team and were removed in November 2023, "are now back in place" in a restricted area inaccessible to operational plant personnel, according to Grossi.

"The presence of mines is inconsistent with the IAEA safety standards," Grossi said.

The plant also lost its immediate back-up power supply to the reactor units for several hours this week, the monitoring mission reported, in the latest incident underlining "persistent nuclear safety and security risks" at the site. The back-up power supply was reportedly restored eight hours later when two other back-up power electrical transformers were put into operation.

Nuclear battery that produces power for 50 years unveiled by Chinese firm

Beijing-based Betavolt said its nuclear battery is the first in the world to realise the miniaturisation of atomic energy, placing 63 nuclear isotopes into a module smaller than a coin. The company said the next-generation battery had already entered the pilot testing stage and will eventually be mass produced for commercial applications like phones and drones.

“Betavolt atomic energy batteries can meet the needs of long-lasting power supply in multiple scenarios, such as aerospace, AI equipment, medical equipment, microprocessors, advanced sensors, small drones and micro-robots,” the firm said in a press release.

Betavolt said its first nuclear battery can deliver 100 microwatts of power and a voltage of 3V, while measuring 15x15x5 cubic millimetres, however it plans to produce a battery with 1 watt of power by 2025.

Their small size means they could be used in series to produce more power, with the company imagining mobile phones that never need to be charged and drones that can fly forever. Its layered design also means it will not catch fire or explode in response to sudden force, Betavolt claims, while also being capable of working in temperatures ranging from -60C to 120C.

Wow! This technology is intriguing, its amazing what the human mind is capable of creating. Such battery is full of potential in its practical application. If they manage to get the production price down and expand the production quantity, expect to see this type of battery to be used in lots of gadgets. Imagine the possibilities this can create. Battery for life so to speak 😀

Military interests are pushing new nuclear power – and the UK government has finally admitted it

The #UK government has announced the “biggest expansion of the [nuclear] sector in 70 years”. This follows years of extraordinarily expensive support.

Why is this? Official assessments acknowledge #nuclear performs poorly compared to alternatives. With renewables and storage significantly cheaper, climate goals are achieved faster, more affordably and reliably by diverse other means. The only new power station under construction is still not finished, running ten years late and many times over budget.

Official UK #energy policy documents fail substantively to justify nuclear power, but on the #military side the picture is clear.

A 2007 report by an executive from submarine-makers BAE Systems called for these military costs to be “masked” behind civil programmes. A secret MoD report in 2014 (later released by freedom of information) showed starkly how declining nuclear power erodes military nuclear skills.

In repeated parliamentary hearings, academics, engineering organisations, research centres, industry bodies and trade unions urged continuing civil nuclear as a means to support military capabilities.

Despite all this, military pressures for nuclear power are not widely recognised in the UK. On the few occasions when it receives media attention, the link has been officially denied.

Other countries tend to be more open about it, with the interdependence acknowledged at presidential level in the US for instance. French president Emmanuel Macron summarises: “without civil nuclear power, no military nuclear power, without military nuclear, no civil nuclear”.

These military pressures help explain why the UK is in denial about poor nuclear performance, yet so supportive of general nuclear skills. Powerful military interests – with characteristic secrecy and active PR – are driving this persistence.

Neglect of this picture makes it all the more disturbing. Outside defence budgets, off the public books and away from due scrutiny, expensive support is being lavished on a joint civil-military nuclear industrial base largely to help fund military needs. These concealed subsidies make nuclear submarines look affordable, but electricity and climate action more costly.
