Jan 5 (Reuters) - #Denmark international Rikke Sevecke announced her retirement from soccer at the age of 27 after saying on Friday that she cannot continue her career due to a #heart #condition.

Sevecke, who made more than 50 appearances for Denmark, played for Everton in the Women's Super League before moving to Portland Thorns in September. However, she did not make a single appearance for the American side.

"It's hard to know where to start. I've been playing soccer since I could walk and it's always been a big part of my life. But that stops now," she wrote on Instagram.

"Over the past few months I've had some tests done and I recently got the results back saying that I have a heart condition.

"This means that I am not allowed to continue playing professional football and I have therefore had to stop my football career immediately. It's extremely hard not to be able to make this decision when I felt the time was right."

Sevecke is not the first player to prematurely retire due to a heart condition.

In December 2021, Argentina striker Sergio Aguero was forced to retire at 33 due to a heart condition while Lucas Leiva retired last year with a similar issue.

"You should be immensely proud of what you have achieved, Rikke. Your Everton family wishes you the very best in this new chapter," Everton Women said in a statement on X.

It's rare, but I got sick both times I've had the #vaccine for #Covid19. The first time wasn't bad, but the second one last week got pretty bad for a while. I'm being treated and my #heart rhythm is back to mostly normal. I won't get any more #boosters though, since I have bad reactions to them. Walid Bouabidi Rafi dreamed of becoming a footballer but his wish was cut short at the age of nine. On Tuesday 12 December he lost his life after suffering a heart attack the day before during a football training session in Noblejas (Toledo). Walid was part of the municipal football school of this town of 3,500 inhabitants linked to Club Deportivo Noblejas.

The young boy suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest on Monday during a training session and he received medical assistance but his condition did not improve and he eventually died 24 hours later.

Due to his untimely death and as a sign of mourning, the training sessions and matches of the municipal football school have been suspended until after the Christmas holidays. In addition, this Wednesday evening, a tribute will be paid to Walid at the Ángel Luengo Garro football pitch, where he suffered the cardiorespiratory arrest.

All the Escuela Municipal de Fútbol players have confirmed their attendance to the tribute and, through a joint statement with Club Deportivo Noblejas, expressed their condolences and "support to the family and friends as well as to all the members of the municipal football school for this tragic and profound loss".

Known for his lean, muscular physique, handsome face and hard-thrusting sumo, Terao, whose real name was Yoshifumi Fukuzono, was a fan favorite along with former yokozuna brothers Takanohana and Wakanohana in the 1980s and 1990s, before retiring in 2002 at 39.

He established the Shikoroyama stable in 2004 and served as its master, counting former sekiwake Abi, the 2022 Kyushu tournament winner, among his proteges.

The Kagoshima Prefecture native made his debut in 1979 and earned "ironman" status after racking up 93 top-tier makuuchi tournament appearances, the sixth-most in the ancient sport's history. His 1,795 career appearances are fourth and 860 wins are 10th on the all-time list.

Terao, whose father was former sekiwake Tsurugamine and stablemaster Izutsu, was the youngest of three sumo wrestling brothers.

The eldest brother, Kakureizan, fought in second-tier juryo, while middle brother Sakahoko also reached the third-highest rank of sekiwake. They died in 2020 and 2019, respectively.

A promising 13-year-old football talent collapsed and died after colliding with another player during a talent scouting match.

The boy, identified as Ernesto Ricardo Salomon, nicknamed Neto, was playing for the Pumas de Tres Valles youth team A when he collided with the unnamed player during a scouting match to recruit talented footballers.

The tragic incident took place in the community of Papaloapan, in the city of Tierra Blanca, in the state of Veracruz, Mexico on 8th November.

After the collision, he collapsed and lost consciousness and the match was put on hold.

Despite attempts by his parents, who were coaching and refereeing, and other spectators to resuscitate him, he died.

Public ministry and expert services personnel, along with investigators, soon arrived at the scene.

They cordoned off the area while unsuccessfully trying to resuscitate him.

His body was then taken to the Institute of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy to determine the cause of his death.

The investigative bodies have not disclosed the cause at the time of writing, although local media claimed it was due to a sudden #heart #attack from the collision.
