Take an #AtariST, 4 #budget #synths from 1988, and spend months seeing how far they can go - all while staring at a black-and-white CRT! I took me over a year to make this given most of the equipment was #DOA and keeping in mind there's another part coming later this year.
Massive thanks to mu:zines and archive.org for their incredible collections. This led me to all the cheapest gear that people were actually using back in the day. Thanks also to all those I reached out to who verified most of the findings and gave me amazing insights to the gear of the day.
Gear used: #Atari #520ST (mostly), #Roland #MT-100, #Yamaha #MusicStation #PSS-580, #Kawai #K1, Yamaha #EMT-10, Dr T MIDI Recording Studio, #Cubase 1.5 and Rotel mini system.

Hi...another video of my #WORK #DISK with Bank C and D sounds completed.
REMARK - unfinished (base) sounds ARE in Bank A and B. These sound are ...If I do not have anything specyfic in my mind I play with OSC changing their pitch, #waveform and volume.
Then I go throungh all #algorytms and try to catch some sounds or a part of it...maybe only 2 or 3 oscylators produce great sound which is worth to spend time on.
Next time maybe all will sound great...your decision :)
Then you have so many other options like add other #OSC, #envelopes, #effects, #AWM - I have a great fun :)REMARK - for those who asked me what was the difference between SY77 and SY99 I placed short comparison at the end of the video.
I loaded sounds from SY77 into SY99 without any modifications. You can now see that SY99 has different set up of EFFECTS and AFTERTOUCH.
Sounds on SY99 may be more expresive / rich. Especially REVERB & DELAY effect is much better if adjusted well.Bank D - 1 brand new sound
Bank C - 11 brand new sounds

I wrote a custom MIDI implementation and #GUI #patch #editor for the #Yamaha YMF825 ( #SD-1) #FM #synthesizer #chip.
Here's a quick demo showing some features of the MIDI driver and the SD-1 chip.

This #video proves nothing (except for my baldness), it was just fun to make.
The first half of the video shows a little #sequence put through the internal sound generator of RM1X.
The second half is the same sequence routed through #MIDI to #Sequential #Prophet Rev2, #Yamaha #EX5R, #Korg #M1, #Behringer #ModelD, #Behringer #Odyssey, and #Novation #DrumStation V1.
Everything is mixed with 1010 Bluebox.
