#Dell to color-code #staff based on how hybrid they really are in RTO push

source: https://www.theregister.com/2024/05/08/dell_return_office/

Starting next Monday, May 13, the enterprise #hardware slinger plans to make weekly site visit data from its badge #tracking available to #employees through the corporation's human capital #management #software and to give them color-coded ratings that summarize their #status. Those #ratings are:

  1. Blue flag indicates "consistent onsite presence"
  2. Green flag indicates "regular onsite presence"
  3. Yellow flag indicates "some onsite presence"
  4. Red flag indicates "limited onsite presence"

They rate their employees according to attendance and not performance. Can you really be that silly?

The Real Book About the "White Working Class"

#politics #USA #work #exploitation

Les Leopold director of the Labor Institute, who’d just written an opposite sort of book called Wall Street’s War on Workers, which turns out to be a thorough deconstruction of most of White Rural Rage:

Leopold has spent much of his career agitating for union causes. and though he’s persistently criticized the Democratic Party, it’s because he’s chiding them for too often advancing interests of wealthy donors over workers, which he sees both as a moral problem and bad electoral strategy. Wall Street’s War on Workers goes further, however, penetrating one of the chief media deceptions of the 21st century, namely that working-class voters are driven by racism and xenophobia, and not by a more simple, enraging motive: they’ve been repeatedly ripped off, by the wealthy donors to both parties.

It's more about qualifying for labor law coverage, folks.

All the press I've seen on this and everybody who has tooted about this in my news feed has missed the entire point of this move. It would mean that any number of hours in a week that exceeds 30 hours means getting paid overtime. All the companies who hire workers to work under 40 hours a week in order to avoid giving full-time employees the benefits that a full timer is entitled to, they hire under 40 per week to avoid calling their employees full timers. Etc.

Now get the fork back on track, you overpaid pencil pushers.

For more than eight decades, the rhythm of a 40-hour workweek has been a (mostly) common experience for workers of all stripes across America. But Sen. Bernie Sanders this week introduced a bill that would shorten the workweek to 32 hours — with the same pay and benefits. Would the reduction in hours threaten small businesses or be a boon to workers? If you're outside the U.S., what is the workweek like where you live? Read about the bill in this report from AP and share your thoughts in the comments: https://flip.it/7eMhc3#
