The last track to complete my Seven Bits #album is a (melodic progressive?) trance track using only the Yamaha AN1x as tone generator for all melodic elements. Drums and noise sweeps are provided from software and Yamaha #S90 ES. Additional processing includes EQing, side-chain compression and subtle reverberation.
Every instrument had to be prepared and recorded separately since the AN1x has no multimode and only 10 voices of polyphony.

Take an #AtariST, 4 #budget #synths from 1988, and spend months seeing how far they can go - all while staring at a black-and-white CRT! I took me over a year to make this given most of the equipment was #DOA and keeping in mind there's another part coming later this year.

Massive thanks to mu:zines and archive.org for their incredible collections. This led me to all the cheapest gear that people were actually using back in the day. Thanks also to all those I reached out to who verified most of the findings and gave me amazing insights to the gear of the day.

Got to make some #music from time to time! Here's a " #jam" using the #microfreak @VolcaNiced sent in change for one of my #synths. #QY70 is doing the sequencing here in pattern mode while also playing #drums, #brass and #bass, #JD-08 is for pad and that "chiming" #sound, while the #Freak is used for soloing. I''m editing parameters on the QY70 "live" here and change #patterns with the left hand while playing some notes with the right hand. Not too complicated but needed some rehearsing anyway.

Ce modèle était le #synthétiseur phare de la série SY et est sorti en 1991. Il combinait des sons #FM avancés (#AFM) et des sons basés sur des #échantillons ( #AWM2) avec des processeurs d'effets doubles et la prise en charge de la multitimbralité en 16 parties. Une caractéristique unique était la convolution et la modulation en temps réel qui permettait d'alimenter des échantillons dans la section FM. Le SY99 permettait également d'importer des échantillons d'utilisateurs dans une mémoire #flash #ROM extensible.

#Discovering #Electronic #Music (1969-1983) - #FranBlanche

This #film by Bernard Wilets was originally produced around 1969-70, but this reel that I present is the updated version from 1983 which includes new added #Fairlight sequences with Rory Kaplan. The original sections are VERY 1969 and the color of this print is still remarkable. Great footage of #Moog #modular #synths right in their heyday and lots of screenshots of waveforms and such. Is it coincidental that so much Bach is being played on the Moog? Calling Wendy Carlos! The film features several people who went on to make their names in #electronic #music, including Rory Kaplan, Douglas Leedy, and Jean-Claude Risset. This reel was transferred from my own #16mm #archive print using my Eiki Telecine. The Eiki has a 5 Blade Shutter that projects a 24fps print at 30 frames per second for a flickerless NTSC transfer. A special diffusion plate eliminates the 'hot spot' of the projector, and the sound is pulled right from the optical track. Enjoy!
