Some #statistics that I find very interesting

1. #Jill #Stein reached 0,4% --> 611,492 votes

source: https://ballotpedia.org/Election_results,_2024

I would have hoped for significantly more votes here.
At least there was the opportunity to make a statement against the war. But in this choice between the bigger devils, people were somehow very willing to vote for this devil instead of choosing an alternative.

2. Astronomically high #fundraising and #spending on candidates.

It's funny that there is so much more money behind the Democrats, despite Musk's support for Trump.
It's funny that despite this fact, some Democrat supporters still define themselves as left-wing and anti-captilastic, when of course they never were.

Not surprising...

https://www.cnbc.com/2024/04/22/global-military-spending-hit-an-all-time-high-in-2023-report-says.html

“The unprecedented rise in military spending is a direct response to the global deterioration in peace and security,” Nan Tian, senior researcher in SIPRI’s military expenditure and arms production programme, said in a statement.

Military expenditure has been rising for nine years straight, and military spending bolstered in all regions of the world for the first time since 2009, the report found. This was linked to the war in Ukraine, as well as to growing tensions in the Middle East and other developments, such as a pushback against organized crime and gang violence in Central America and the Caribbean.

Good article and I'm sure it's all correct. But despite mentioning loads of reasons for the downturn, it fails to mention high prices due to inflation. Most of the businesses being hurt depend on discretionary spending. "Let's spend the weekend in The City." Nope. "Let's go for a drink. Let's go dancing. Let's go shopping." Naw, let's not. People are spending only what they have to spend in order to function.

#Economics & #taxation 101 [US] or made simple [UK] (HINT goverment #spending NEVER works like a household budget!):

“How can we get this simple point across?
When I go to Sainsburys and buy £40 worth of groceries, I no longer have the £40.
When the Government spends £10 billion on healthcare, it gets all or most of its money back.
The £10 billion pays wages and buys goods and services. The NHS staff pay taxes and buy more goods and services generating more jobs and profits and more taxes. The cycle repeats and repeats.
In the longer term, at worst the Government will have paid £1 billion or £2 billion. More likely, it will have paid nothing, or made a profit of £1 billion.
No politician seems to grasp this”

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/biden-spending-plan-billed-as-infrastructure-bill-spends-non-infrastructure

Biden's $2T spending plan, billed as infrastructure bill, spends less than half on infrastructure

Less than 6% of the proposal goes to roads and bridges, critics say

The White House is casting a very wide net about what constitutes infrastructure — for example, the American Jobs Plan references "care infrastructure" when talking about $25 billion to upgrade child care facilities and a $400 billion expenditure on care for the elderly and disabled. That's quite different from repairing potholes and rebuilding bridges.
