Russia suffered 'astronomical' losses on Kharkiv front, NATO source suggests
Russia suffered "astronomical" losses while attempting to advance in Kharkiv Oblast, European Pravda reported on June 13, citing a NATO official who spoke on condition of anonymity during a NATO defense ministers meeting in Brussels.
Russia launched a new offensive on May 10 in northern Kharkiv Oblast in a push that involved as many as 30,000 troops, according to a Ukrainian official.
Russian forces have so far advanced less than 10 kilometers into Ukrainian territory and have not managed to seize control of Vovchansk, a city with a pre-2022 population of around 17,000.
"I would also add that the gains in Kharkiv Oblast seem to have come at a rather high price for Russia," European Pravda cited the NATO official.
"Russia likely suffered losses of almost 1,000 people a day in May, which is quite an astronomical figure," the official reportedly said, referring to the number of fatalities.

Ukraine has already used JDAM-ER bombs to strike Russian targets, thanks to U.S. supplies. Washington is also planning to supply Kyiv with seekers, advanced targeting systems integrated into the JDAM-ER munitions, to help destroy Russian electronic warfare systems, which have proven effective against Western weaponry.

#NATO Parliamentary Assembly supports Ukraine's right to hit targets inside Russia using Western arms
NATO member states should "support Ukraine in its international right to defend itself by lifting some restrictions on the use of weapons provided by NATO allies to strike legitimate targets in Russia," the declaration said.

Russian troops attacked a recreation center in a northern suburb of Kharkiv at around 11 a.m. local time, killing six civilians, including a pregnant woman, and wounding 27, the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office said on May 19.
Kharkiv Oblast Governor Oleh Syniehubov then said on May 20 that the casualties had risen to seven dead and 28 wounded after a man's body was found.
The strike took place in Mala Danylivka, roughly 70 kilometers southwest of the fiercely contested Vovchansk.
A paramedic was among the wounded, and an ambulance was damaged, he added.
In a later post on Telegram, Syniehubov said Russian forces had fired two Iskander ballistic missiles in a #double-tap strike – a common Russian tactic in which a target is struck once and then again shortly after, the second strike deliberately targeting rescue workers.
